"It's only a snatcher. I'll just have everyone nearby swamp him!"

6 dead dwarves and four tantruming cripples later....

"Oh, a Dragon just entered the map.  I'll release my vampires and get rid of them that way."

One greasy smoke cloud later, I reloaded from the previous spring (unburiable vampires result in blood-sucking ghosts).   ::)

If you have access to water you can irrigate. If you have access to a trade depot you can trade. It's not quite as bad as it looks. :P

Except entire map is covered in lava so no caravans, and there was no aquifer. Somehow, caverns never occur to me as a place I want to go.

"I doubt zombie crows are that dangerous"

I lost an average of three dwarfs a season, not to mention all the deaths from other creatures and even siegers that managed to catch the dwarfs as they ran away from zombie crows.

'What's up with all these dead bodies in this necromancer's lair?'

'Heh, look at all these idiots failing on Terrifying biomes. I can do better than that!'

"Oh good. I fixed it."

"Oh, a siege already? Well, it's probably pretty small, my militia can deal with it." Followed by: "What do you mean the drawbridge isn't linked up to the lever yet?"

"Dwarf Fortress can't be that addicting."

"I don't think this lever is the killswitch."

"I doubt there is a cave right below here."

"I can survive in a completely salt water embark."
