18th Felsite 1069
The new Baron of Scrubbedcream, Shorast Rabcog, got into a fist fight today.
Apparently his accommodations are unsatisfactory and he does not find the progress on his new rooms reassuring. He claims that the size of Farmerbob's rooms in comparison to his own have utterly traumatized him. So far he has not assaulted anyone else but it seems that nothing will placate him. All of his demands for the making of lay pewter items were completed and the resulting furniture placed in his bedroom, none of his mandates were violated. It seems that the construction of the Baron's rooms were simply too slow for his fragile ego to handle and it is now too late to save him from a complete breakdown.
27th Felsite
Despite all I could do Baron Shorast has gone insane.
He was in the main food storage area when it happened, on the same level as the farms and pastures. He immediately attacked the nearest dwarf who ran into the nearby pen for fowl. The Baron then proceeded to chase a few unlucky dwarfs around the room attempting to beat them to death. Conan Cilobil was the first of the military dwarves to arrive on the scene, having been on his way down from the barracks to eat.
Conan has told me that he tried to make Shorast's death as fast and painless as possible but that the Baron would not stop wriggling, even after Conan chopped off both his legs.

I feel deeply responsible for this needless death. I suggested Shorast to Conan without checking to see if he was mentally suitable for the job. Afterward I did not make the construction of Shorast's rooms my first priority. I have decided to retire as Overseer, the traditional one year term is almost over in any case. I will have a slab placed in my room and Shorast Rabcog's coffin built in front of my desk. I will tidy up the fortress and my records. Then, on the third of Hematite I shall go to my rest.

Conan has come to place my slab himself. I will leave this journal and a note on my desk for the first dwarf who enters.

"Are you sure about this?" The dwarf asks.
"
Yes. I have grown weary of the world, peace will be a welcome change." The voice seems to echo and whisper around the room as if it comes from faraway and very close at the same time.
"Well if that's what you want...," The Dwarf lifts a rock slab off the ground and carries it to where grooves have been carved into the floor to place the slab on. The slab is blank.
"
Conan, thank you.... and if Scrubbedcream should ever need me... break the slab."
The dwarf nods and slowly lowers the memorial slab into place. There is a click of stone on stone and the dwarf called Conan is alone in the room.

I just realized that I got the date when I was supposed to hand over the save wrong. I cut myself 20 df days short but thats ok. I will post some notes to the next overseer and the death total tomorrow. Here is the save, please wait to start until I post my notes.
