Rith Athelgemesh has just confused everyone.  Each and every single one of us is wondering how he did it.

A couple weeks ago, on the 4th, right as I was getting ready to pass the torch as it were, he started babbling about adamantine.  Knowing the signs of a upcoming mood, we got out of his way and happily allowed him to start collecting gems, blocks, bones, and adamantine.

He has created what he calls Gazotuz, or "Slothgrowl"  An adamantine shield of admittedly excellent quality.  But immediately after finishing it, he collapsed, and when we brought him around, it's obvious that he has absolutely no clue what he did.  A shame, really, we could use an armorer that could produce equipment like that regularly.

The mist generator, which I could never quite figure out, now works, after I cheated and installed a pond with a manual drain into the pump inputs and outputs. on one side.

Several more stockpiles have been consolidated.  I found at least a dozen huge trash piles scattered around the place, and put the haulers to work several times.  We now have an absurd pile of dead things on the surface, but that's fine, because eventually it will rot away, and some of the parts will eventually yield useful bones.  I'm not sorting through it any more than necessary.  I found a whole lot more wooden elfcrap in a couple more hidden piles of trash.  We probably have enough wooden junk and excess clothing to buy out another entire caravan.  Sigh.

Shortly before Rith finished his shield, the Elves showed up again.  I went up top with a voice thrower, and told them we don't need any more elf bones or wooden armor, and we're tired of cleaning elf blood off the floors.  I politely asked for them to see reason and go away until next year after we've sold all the stuff the dead elves from the last few raids had with them.  The elf leader gave me some sort of strange salute with the middle finger of his right hand, said something to an elf marksman beside him, and the elf shot an arrow at me!

Ah well, no big deal.  We're almost completely secure here now.  There are a few things I'd like to do to the four corner entrances from the towers that lead to the ice cavern under the keep, but the next overseer can see to that.

I've just been told that there are now migrants out there.  They are sensibly hiding as far from the elves as they can.  The elves don't appear to have seen them yet.

The new quarters I designed are coming along well.  I have left them unassigned for now.  They are very nice, and should probably be reserved for dwarves with coping issues.  When I last checked all the dwarves in the fort were at least content, but Armok knows that can change at the death of someone's pet puppy, so be ready.

The farming area now has a large cavern for birds and soon-to-be slaughtered animals, right behind the butcher shop.  Additionally, a new area has been dug out for bone, horn, shell, hair storage.  It's still got a bunch of rocks in it, but most of the bones and whatnot are stored there now.  The old bone storage is muddy floor, and has been made into a non-bird pet grazing area.

The mist generator has been turned off for a while now, and the pond is full.  I'm writing up the last bits and pieces of my reports now.  Which of you fine dwarves wants to take this job off my hands?

The save is here:

http://dffd.wimbli.com/file.php?id=4651

Apologies for overrunning, but I found half a dozen huge piles of junk right before the turn of the year, and wanted to use up most of the stone I dug and furnish a dozen or so example rooms.

Then I saw that moody dwarf pick up an adamantine wafer...

I really need to start wrapping things up earlier, and trying to do less, lol.

About 200 bins got made, and we're actually getting close to not needing any more.  There were actually three bins in the furniture storage before I found those last couple piles of corpses and elfcrap.

The next row of adamantine is designated for fortification carving, when that's done, if no clowns are found, then dig it out, smooth, fortify, and do it again :)

Just as a side note - there IS still some forgotten beast goo here and there - especially in the caverns.

There are at least three new forgotten beasts in the caverns as well.  I looked at the collapse trap and the spear trap, but didn't trust either to kill forgotten beasts.  I prefer obsidian mixers, and didn't have time to build one.

Ya but thats a pretty obvious way to do it - the lever in the one we have does nothing at all that I can see, lol.
What it should do is toggle a pair of retracting bridges, stopping the water from moving around the system even though the pumps are always on. It would be pretty funny after all that if they didn't work, since checking lever function is so second nature that I never actually remember if I've done it.

*fires up save as it was handed over*

...And indeed, I forgot to hook the bridges to the lever. Ha!

I am trying to make chickens lay bees as eggs. So far it only produces a single "Tame Small Creature" when a hen lays bees.
Honestly at the time, I didn't see what could go wrong with crowding 80 military Dwarves into a small room with a necromancer for the purpose of making bacon.

That's what I thought it would do too but I saw no need to turn the thing on during my reign.

I was wondering if I were just missing something utterly obvious.  Ah well, the cistern next to the pumps shouldn't hurt anything  ;D

This place is pretty intimidating... I am spending time learning the layout just so i will be able to find things. Why are so many dwarfs custom profession-ed Hauler? The military consist of about five dwarfs and the caverns are a mess, I guess those two things will be the focus of my turn.

ive gotten in the habit of replacing my chief medical dwarf as soon as he gains any notable skill in diagnosis.
It's really funny watching them do unnecessary surgery because of a wrong diagnosis.
the conditions were bad enough to turn a dwarf who didn't care about anything mad, that's pretty hardcore.

"Which of you fine dwarves wants to take this job off my hands?" he asks aloud. He does not expect a reply, he thinks he is alone in the room.
"I do", he is not alone.
He starts, turns around, sees me, backs away.
"Give me the book", he is clutching it in trembling hands.
"The book, give it to me", he holds it out to me, saying nothing. I take it.
The Journal of Scrubbedcreams is tattered and blood stained.
He quickly leaves the room. I open the book, begin to write: I am the new Overseer of Scrubbedcreams.

With few exceptions, everyone in that fort is a hauler, because there was absurd amounts of hauling to do.  There are also large numbers of masons, as I had several very large masonry projects going on, including putting a roof over the ground level keep.

If you are actually going to mess around in the caverns, be warned there are at least 4 or 5 forgotten beasts down there, as well as lots of items covered with forgotten beast goo.

I would just fill the caverns with magma, personally, and dig out some big rooms to make muddy floors in for animals, and maybe keep one little section of caverns with cave spiders in it that cats can't get to.

The magma probably won't kill all the FB's, but it will probably kill one or two, and will clean up a lot of junk and trash and blood and whatnot.

Yeah, I didn't open up the caverns to clean the useful junk left there since I was afraid of the FB's from entering.

Anyways, how the hell did that stuff even get there in the first place? I saw beds, food, drink, fish, furniture, the sort. It's absurd on so many levels.

When you do a reclaim of a existing fort, the stuff that was in the fort before is scattered around and forbidden.

This fort is a reclaim fort :)

That it is, I tried to do some cleanup but the number of items scattered about is just kind boggling.

Also, farmerbob can you do a quick tally of the dead? I'm trying to keep an eye on it, more for fun then anything.
