Yeah, with all three caverns open the FPS is rough. I was getting 30ish on my second turn, now I can't even run it.

Partial turn, sorry... Very small turn, but 2 FBs killed and stuff.

I don't really have much time, and honestly it's not fun playing a very slow fort (this is the point where I'd consider abandon due to FPS, might be my computer though).

If Ipheno can't make much headway I might run a turn just to clean up things and try to raise framerate.

ive gotten in the habit of replacing my chief medical dwarf as soon as he gains any notable skill in diagnosis.
It's really funny watching them do unnecessary surgery because of a wrong diagnosis.
the conditions were bad enough to turn a dwarf who didn't care about anything mad, that's pretty hardcore.

I've dorfed myself as the weaponsmith.
Warning:  Posts will include large quantities of profanity.

Entry #1 - Arrival

14th of Malachite, 1069

Mid-summer.  Mid-summer?  MID-SUMMER?!  You call this Mid-Summer?!  I'm freezing my ass off!  How the HELL did i let those lunatics at the guild talk me into doing this job?!  I've just arrived at "Scrubbedcreams", my new residence.  I was sent here to "Get the fortress up and running again.".  Frankly, i don't see anything that resembles a fortress.  Hell i don't see a lot of ANYTHING through this god damned snow.  After a long arduous journey I arrived at what appears to be a massive ice cube.  I quickly discover an entrance to the ice cube, upon which the former overseer gleefully runs up to me, rams a stack of papers into my arms, wishes me the best of luck and begins talking to himself in the fetal position.  Well, we're certainly off to a good start aren't we?

Later that day...

Initial reaction:  WHAT THE FUCK?!  This place is a complete logistic NIGHTMARE.  I've been wandering around for over an hour and i have yet to see anything that resembles workshops.  We have rooms in random ass placement all with different contents.  We have random holes in walls, a dinning room thats virtually empty, dead animals, several prisoners, LEVERS that i dont know what the FUCK they do, and that's just the TIP of the iceberg.  Pardon that little pun there...  Oh and we appear to pumping something somewhere because...oh hell i won't even TRY to figure that out...  The military is a complete mess.  I don't know which maniac set that up but we have over a million squads each with 1 or 2 guys in them.  Am i supposed to micromanage who goes where?  Also, what the fuck is with the armor set up?  Have these people never heard of armor load?  First order of business is to create new uniforms for everyone.  Also, why do we only have 1 miner?  You there!  Spinner!  Congratulations, you're a miner now.  Get to work!  Next up i'm creating a central area for workshops.
Spoiler (click to show/hide)
I'm amazed we're even still alive!

15th of Malachite, 1069.

This place is a death trap.  I was just told we only have 28 units of meat left before we're flat out out of food.  I'm designating some new farmers... Also, how is it that we have 38 idlers?!  Back home we had over 180 people and no one was unemployed....
From now on, anyone who isn't doing something else is farming!  No questions asked.
Spoiler (click to show/hide)

16th of Malachite, 1069.

Turns out we had more that 1 miner...
Spoiler (click to show/hide)
Also, why are all of our seeds forbidden?  No wonder we don't have any food!  Also, who the hell made the hallways so damn NARROW?!  Trafficing is virtually impossible...dwarves keep running into each other and having to climb over each other.  I'm gonna have to have some stern words with the former overseer...

23rd of Malachite, 1069.

Some migrants have arrived.  A new batch of gullible little fucks that don't realize they're walking into their demise.  Oh well, grab a spade guys, welcome to fucking Scrubbedcreams!  You won't have any rooms or food but we can sure use the help!  A diagnoser, a gem cutter, a wood burner, a brewer, a siege engineer, a glazer, and a woodcutter.  Oh and they brought 2 cow calves, a baby alpaca, a duckling, and a buffalo calve.  I recruited 2 of them into the military.  Erm...WHAT THE FUCK?!?!  Why are our hammer dwarves using spears?  Ive commissioned them to use silver war hammers from now on.

END OF ENTRY #1

OOC:  Future entrys will include more pictures =)  Also, the game runs pretty smoothly for me :D

Entry #2 - A puzzled dwarf...

11th of Galena, 1069

So the mayor just stormed into my room demanding we immediately cease the export of aluminum items.
Spoiler (click to show/hide)
well that shouldn't be a problem seeing how some bozo decided to piss off the tree huggers...

12th of Galena, 1069

I don't know why or how but it seems my swords dwarves had a little run in with a giant earthworm.  He didn't put up much of a fight though...
Spoiler (click to show/hide)

For some reason the dwarves can't find any plump helmet seeds.  The records clearly state that we have over 100 seeds left...someone's gonna have to answer for this...

Oh and someone's throwing a party
Spoiler (click to show/hide)
Shit.

Shit shit shit shit shit shit shit shit shit...
Spoiler (click to show/hide)
awesome...just what we needed...another one... Armok save us!

The seeds are in the three cavern layers, walled off and inacessible. There are FBs in at least two of the cavern layers as well. If, and that's a big if, you can get a large enough plot muddied to start sprouting then you might be able to harvest some new plumps.

Food has always been an issue for this fort. As for the poor layout, it's more a relic of the 100+z-level original fort, and needing to work around the initial rooms due to FBs taking over old Scrubbedcreams.

If you can secure the first cavern layer, and harvest every plant in there, you might make it another year.

Entry #3 - The Calm before the Storm

25th of Galena, 1069

If we're to survive even another month in this rotten hell hole of a fortress we need to regroup and re-organize.  First thing's first, I'm dismantling the military.  I'm going to create new squads, larger squads, better squads.  The recruits will then be given a few weeks to get some basic combat skills under their belt before we begin Operation Force Recovery.  A former overseer has given me some intel that the seeds are locked outside of the fortress deep in the caverns.  If we're to access them we will have to tear down the walls and launch an attack on the Forgotten Beasts that live in this area.  Armok stand by our side.

I have created several new squads, however most of these dwarves aren't soldiers.  They're fishers, haulers, and other simpletons.  May Armok have mercy on their souls...

Next, to raise overall moral our legendary engravers shall begin smoothing and engraving the entire fortress.  The coming weeks will test us to the very core.

Why do we have a random pit filled with water in the middle of our fortress?!  It's causing our dwarves to pass out and we're getting nothing done...  Screw this im flooring it over...
Spoiler (click to show/hide)
Which lunatic installed this?!  What even is that?  A washing machine?  What the hell....

15th of Limestone, 1069

Spoiler (click to show/hide)
I fear Armok hath forsaken us...

Spears are good organ-wreckers against the large animals the elves bring. I have no idea how well Scrubbedcream's finest will do with cracking open an elephant.

I am trying to make chickens lay bees as eggs. So far it only produces a single "Tame Small Creature" when a hen lays bees.
Honestly at the time, I didn't see what could go wrong with crowding 80 military Dwarves into a small room with a necromancer for the purpose of making bacon.

Entry #5 - Recovery

26th of Sandstone, 1069

Some migrants have arrived.  Yay?

2nd of Timber, 1069

One of our injured soldiers is throwing a tantrum.  I'm concerned for the well being of this fortress.  At least he no longer has a weapon arm...

Our surgeon had a baby
Spoiler (click to show/hide)

13th of Timber, 1069

A Gremlin! Drive it away!  Or...or just chop it to bits...that's...that's fine too...ok then guys...

16th of Timber, 1069

A caravan has arrived!  Time to move all our crafts to the trade depot and get as much food and booze from these guys as we can.  Man i hope our last overseer had them bring the right stuff...

17th of Timber, 1069

Another one of our dwarves gave birth.  If only these babies weren't so bloody useless!

22nd of Timber, 1069

Oh no!  The well is dry!  Immediate action must be taken if we are to survive!

The enemie is upon us!  A forgotten beast shows it's face.  Our military rushes to engaged it
Spoiler (click to show/hide)

27th of Timber, 1069

Spoiler (click to show/hide)
What the hell is going on here?!  Is it the poisonous blood?  I have a bad feeling about this...

The surface seems pretty safe and miasma is becoming a problem so I designated that all waist be dumped outside of the fortress from now on.  We're gonna make something out of this hell hole, if it's the last thing i do.  And at this rate, it likely will be...

14th of Moonstone, 1069

Id has given birth to a baby!  Maybe things aren't so bad.  Maybe we can turn things around.  Our food and booze stockpiles are recovering.  The overall moral is down and I am told Geshud has been picking fights but i feel like that will change once we get more of the fortress engraved.  I've also commissioned a hospital to be set up.  We can't let our brothers in arms die to simple wounds merely because we have no manner of treating them.  The fortress is still a mess but with the help of the other dwarves i am beginning to learn how to navigate it.  Armok may be smiling upon us.

19th of Moonstone, 1069

The caravan is departing today.  I have asked them to return with wood, food, seeds and booze next year.  Although we are starting to produce a decent amount of food and booze ourselves, it's important to keep a large stock for emergencies.  If our birthrate continues we will have many more mouths to feed in a year.

OOC:  true dat, but it seems like a waist to make the hammerdwarves use spears when we have perfectly good spear dwarves that could do it.  Also i'm more of a sword guy myself.  The choppin action of an axe, with the stabbey stabbey of spears.
