So, I want to be extremely careful not to quote my DM here. But I just realized something, so explaining more now. Spoilering for length control, but this involves an observation about Max as well.
I started game with an auto and innate ability that is named something like, 'Villians achieve the victory' And everyone currently on a scum team at the start of play got quoted that entire ability, with the real words, and got encouraged to go find and kill the person who has that ability for some, um, 'advantages' for the killer (it's in the ability wording). It's worded really nice, it fully sounds like it is good for the killer.
They didn't, that I can understand, get told the rest of my DM, like what my alignment is, or the other things that make it clear that the ability that any and all existing scum teams got told about is mostly a ruse. It's true, of course, but it doesn't reveal the rest of it. So I'm just going to remind that 'Villians achieve the victory' does not say that the villian(s) that killed me and got that benefit are the same villians that would be then conquering, there's quite a few ways to read that and ways to turn that apparent benefit into a curse.
However, when Maximum Spin said this:
I think Imp is a badguy.
Well, it could be coincidence. But I'd already made my first post that gave away, to anyone smart and scum, that I had that ability they were told to watch for.
And it doesn't have the word(s) villians in it. But it does have the word(s) 'badguys' in it, though that's still not exactly and perfectly a quote.
Who would think a townie would have an auto innate ability with a name synonymous with 'Villians achieve the victory'. That's probably looking like a darn safe vote for Maximum Spin, if he is in a scum team and I'm not in it - since I gave myself away post 1 and scum team(s) existing then would have a good chance to catch that. Or coincidence that he used those words. But if Maximum Spin started the day on a scum team, he saw those words. And might well be using them on purpose, maybe to also try to draw out other not-same scum team members, and with his unkillable claim, so they have to try and vote him, maybe. Or not, could be coincidence. I never expect to be alive D2. I always try to help town win every minute I have alive, so saying so before I may die.
Also, Max said this after I asked to be considered as a target for protection:
I need to pick someone to protect. Please vie for my affections in an orderly manner.
I have not even tried to confirm how convertible I maybe am, but there's a chance my consent means something in this game. I am not agreeing to anything, so help me town. But I note that in addition to calling me badguy, Max extended a form of possible invitation to make a request of him, possibly indirectly aimed at my interest and preferences. I don't know what this means and it could be a second coincidence.
My direct answer to that 'offer': I'm not refusing protection, but you decide, not me, if it comes to me. I am not vieing for anything, and not explicitly consenting either.
Also, I positively hammered FallacyofUrist with questions, in DMs, since I saw my role PM. I can't quote any DMs, but some of the answers had 8 separate questions they were answering.
That question I asked FallacyofUrist in our game, I'd already asked that one, not quite word for word, in DM. I can't quote DMs, but I can ask Fallacy a similar question in the thread (no idea what the answer might be there, some things surely are private info).
Every one of you can ask a lot too. Nothing but you is stopping you. Also, I didn't ask enough, or soon enough, thus everything else I've said and done after my first post (my first, innocent, idiotic post) has been catch up and trying to play for a town win and also fix my oopses and catch what got revealed by my first post, which would be highly interesting to existing scum teams and not to serial killers (that I know of) or any other baddies we might also have to deal with (I have no confirmation of cult or other baddies. However, the wording I saw in DMs means I am sure of named red Mafia and Pirates - either of which may or may not exist - but the wording actually supports there could be more than two red teams. And potentially more than one SK. And says absolutely nothing about if there's cult too.)
While asking in DM may not help us learn who is watching the watchers, it does have some value.
I also want to say some ideas about what may be going on with EuchreJack. I want to propose that maybe EuchreJack is town right now, or something else not red, but 'fated' to form the Pirate team as scum the end of D1. Length, so spoilering why:
They did say, very early in:
When I die, I leave behind a hat that is stronger than my ability. While it could help Mafia, a Town player would get more use out of it.
Later they said:
They get added to piratechat and they inspect as pirate. From what I can tell, the alignment inspection is a result of joining the pirate chat.
I am unsure if anything prevents them from being invited to the chat.
I should also add that my crewmates only inspect as Pirate while I live. After my death, their inspection as Pirate ends.
So it provides cover to mafia from being inspected as mafia as well as hindering a townie from being inspected as town.
It changes your alignment inspection to Pirate.
As you can probably have guessed by my softclaim to Toony of "Millers shouldn't claim", my alignment inspect is also Pirate.
Funny thing about those two: I can't see anything that says Pirate is mafia. For all I know, Pirate inspects as teal, brown, blue. In other words, my assumption was that it is a third-party inspection, not a mafia inspection.
(I also didn't clearly understand my role when I originally posted, so I apologize for any inconsistencies regarding the hat.)
I should point out, I can recruit 3 pirates at end of Day 1, and no more.
While any of that can be a lie, what I think might be going on:
EuchreJack could be Pirate Ally, and maybe not aware that Pirates may not exist at start of play. He may have that pirate chat..... and be alone in it. Waiting for it to be filled, around end of day, with 3 allies.
How are those allies chosen? Maybe by volunteering. Maybe some other way, so I'm staying way, way back from anything that maybe can get me 'voluntold' that I can imagine or predict.
But I don't think those allies are stopped by his death, because 1 or more things about my abilities are not stopped by my death.
I suspect that EuchreJack's abilities are going to happen end of D1. And we're going to get 3 pirates then. Me able to choose to become something other than town, even by accident/carelessness/confusion/ignorance would make sense based on DMs, though I have not been directly told that and have not asked for that specific confirmation.
So I really wanna say, maybe webadict's unfun ability might be the best here, to prevent the creation of up to 3 new scum, based on what webadict says here:
... Okay, hey guys, I, fortunately or unfortunately, have the world's strongest ability. I require everyone to make a vote on who to use this on because the ability is too strong to remain in my possession, lest the Mafia or other nefarious persons pilfer this.
I will thusly claim.
I can remove the role of another player once per game.
Yes, this is permanent. Yes, this is busted. No, I couldn't not claim it. No, I can't save it for later.
Please pick who should be the target, because they will be effectively removed from the Night game.
Even if we lynch EuchreJack, I think unless anyone but EuchreJack wants 3 pirates in the game, it's kinda needful to scrub EuchreJack's role before end of D1 or death of EuchreJack through any other means.
I don't have any info on if we need those pirates to balance something else.
I also want to say, I wonder about players saying stuff like this:
Also: Who wants to be a pirate?
I do... Ah, but I cannot! Give it to Lenglon, she seems trustworthy.
Also, Euchre, I would highly recommend that you do not pick me for your... crew? Not that it wouldn't be appreciated, but you are unlikely to enjoy the effects of doing so.
I'd say you could recruit me, but it would be a bad idea.
Webadict and
Maximum Spin:
What are you willing to tell us about why you answered EuchreJack's invitation that way?
Lenglon:
This is also possibly interesting:
Jack: Please do not recruit Max or Toony. I would prefer not to explain why I am making this request until day 2, but will if it is insisted upon.
I'm not insisting, but are there any clues or information you are willing to provide?
So, when
EucherJack said this, very early on:
@web: Obviously, you should default to TricMagic if you see no better options to Null. It would save him from the "Protect Scum, Kill Town" decision.
As for using it on me: I might be mildly annoyed to lose my ability, but frankly it's actually more work than I signed up for, so if you think I look scummy, feel free to scrub my profile. Vanilla Town would be easier, and I doubt anyone would want to waste time lynching or killing a powerless player.
Right, back to work.
That looks like consent. I wouldn't dare make that strong a request, not this deep in dream.
Does anyone think EuchreJack might actually be trying to get scrubbed? Anyone imagine any reasons not to? I don't have any information on exactly that, my ideas and observations are in that second spoiler in this post.
Also noting here, people who so far said yes to EuchreJack at any point:
Also: Who wants to be a pirate?
Me, but depending on what that entails, you might regret inducting me into your crew.
Oh, actually just Elephant Parade? Did I miss anyone else who said an unqualified yes?
The role Pirate King gives me access to the Pirate chat. I can recruit 3 other people to join Pirate chat. They will also inspect as Pirate.
Please reveal how you recruit. You seem to have left that out of your claims.
Then our overworked GM kindly informed everyone publicly that Pirate could only possibly be a scum faction.
That is 100% an answer to my question. Yes, it was decided to be answered, in public as it had been in private.
However, again, any of us can ask any question of our overworked GM. I've had more than 10 answered today already.
I still think EuchreJack's fairly innocent. I could be wrong, but he came in way to direct to have known what was going to happen with the red. He still may have to die, but I do suspect he was as innocent when he revealed himself as I was with my stupid, cut my own throat first post. Just he revealed to all and I only revealed to current scum factions.
I will say that without asking, I still wouldn't know that I had self-marked to scum as 'come kill me, it's worth it'. I would have been as blindsided as EuchreJack appears now. -AND- whoever landed the kill on me would also have been blindsided, because my death at scum or SK hands helps all the other enemies of that killer so much more.
All this makes it so hard to dream. And then there's
Egan_BW talking about my having already attended that 'brick spire' I did not consent. And I note you're not forcing me onto that char list, that's nice. I still do not consent. But despite the power of your dream, I can surely still spin my own dreams.
As the stories go, we think The White Tower dates back to the Ottoman period, 15th or 16th century. On the waterfront of Thessaloniki, Greece, made of brick and stone, so much mystery surrounding it. It's known to have been used at times as a prison, at times as a fortress, and is currently a museum. Absolutely no one of specific repute is connected to it, as a prisoner or other participant, it's unclear who built it, or even which ruler ordered it be built.
But it's clearly a protective watchtower, a place of knowledge, defense, and stable imprisonment. Could this be where we could learn who watches the watchers?
Self note, I didn't read all the recent posts before posting. Stuff seems to be happening, make sure to comment in my next post.
