Turn 12 - Town Action Round Up

Arienne departs, without a word, obviously already planning. She looks around for a book store or library. Failing that, she inquired to citizens if anyone practiced magic around these parts.

((A lot of people 'practice' magic. About 1 in 10 adventures will have a simple spark spell to light a fire or a spell which can generate about a cups worth of clean water. In a town like this though you likely will not find someone to teach you. The next town should have if your lucky an Adventurer's Guild were for a small price someone can attempt to teach you the basics of a simple spell like that. Anything higher class will either come from a family heritage, A mentor, one of the few wizard schools, or found in an ancient ruin. You can also attempt to manipulate magic yourself if you get a few tips what magic is which while potentially more powerful requires more work and more rolls (the difference between casting fireball and gathering a ball fire, propelling it, and finally exploding it). Finally books are rare. No printing press after all or at least not out here. Each book is handwritten. Oh and everyone in the group can read the common tongue so no worries there for the moment.))

With a quick question the guard captain directs you to a small odds and ends shop. While it only has a small selection of books this is all the town has and it is also the only place to get anything related to magic at. As you enter the shop a soft tinkling sound announces your presence. An old but kindly looking women is manning the counter. With a quick look around you can't see any books so you ask here. With a smile the lady informs you that even the cheapest book is worth 100sp and that is only if they are really torn up so she keeps them locked up with the other really expensive stuff. She then asks if there is anything in particular you are looking for whether book or not.

Arienne checks her purse.

Arienne inquires as to the title of the cheapest book.

[2] "hmph, if you have to ask you probably can't afford it. I also don't have a habit of telling people what information like that out as it just attracts thieves. Either give me a category your interested in or just be fine with what I have out on the shelves."

Arienne silently but angrily makes a rude gesture towards the old lady, before backing out of the shop. With a sigh, she decides just to head to bed.

You can't see it since your leaving but you can just feel her smirk and knowing look, judging you as being poor and unable to afford her wares. That out of the way you head to the inn and the off to bed after a meal.

TLDR: After a quick query to the guard captain Arienne heads off to the only place in town that sells books or anything related to magic. It is a small odds and ends shop filled to the brim with the strangest of things. Ignoring all of it because she can't spot any books Arienne heads directly to the counter where and old and kind looking lady is and she asks where the books are. The lady behind the counter smiles and informs here that even the cheapest book is worth at least 100sp and even then only if in bad condition so quite smartly the lady keeps them locked up along with anything else of real value. Then the lady asks Arienne if she is looking for anything in particular. Arienne asks what the cheapest book is. The lady feeling this question is a bit blunt and probably showing a lack of money tells Arienne that she probably can't afford it anyway but that she(the lady) doesn't make a habit of informing random people what she has to help prevent thieves from targeting her then asks if Arienne has any category she is interested in or she can just be fine with what is on the shelves. Arienne in a huff silently leaves the building though not before making a rude gesture towards the lady. Sighing Arienne heads to the inn and after paying for meal and board, eats her dinner and heads off to bed.

((Important things learned. Everyday magic such as being able to conjure a bit of drinking water or start a campfire is common and you can buy lessons on such things at an Adventurers Guild. You can self learn magic if you can figure out how to manipulate it which is easier if someone can point you in the right direction. Also remember while a fantasy setting, books are not wide spread and as far as the group currently knows comes in only one kind, Handwritten.))

Takashi awkwardly looks around before after a few minutes looks at the guard and rather casually... messing with something hidden behind her cape that the party would probably have seen before.
"Anywhere I can rest my dear head's and take a nice long breather preferably sweet like a sauna or hotsprings?"

The guard captain looks at you and barks out a laugh. "You and me both lass. If you want to clean up the tavern will let you use a bucket of water and a clean rag once a day if your staying there. Room costs 10cp a night, 15cp with a meal. If you want just a meal though it will cost you 8cp."

Takashi gives a chuckle as well a smile spreading across their face before they quietly look at the captain for a moment before they look excited and in a kinda cocky tone
"Well then what do you say you and me have a little sparring match and winner gets to have the loser do them a favour?"
Challenge the guard to a good old match If you can't relax get the blood pumping hell I might learn something.

The Guard Captain looks at you with disdain. "Do you think my job is a joke? I am on duty and even if I wasn't I wouldn't take the chance. Getting hurt so as to be unable to work because of such a fool hardy thing is grounds for instant dismissal and exile from town. We can't have our guards being unable to defend the town as needed for something like that."

Takashi: -15cp, 32sp 9cp remaining

TLDR: Takashi awkwardly looks around for a moment before asking the guard captain if there was a nice place to relax at. For instance something like a sauna or hot spring. With that the guard captain barks out a laugh and comments how he would like that as well. He then informs Takashi that sadly there is only the tavern in town and the tells her the cost of meal and board. Takashi then gets a cocky grin and asks if he would would dual with her and the winner gets a favor from the loser. The guard captain is highly offended by this and goes on a rant about how any guard in this town who would do something fool hardy like that and ends up hurt enough to not be able to go on duty would be instantly dismissed and then promptly exiled from the town. Takashi wanders off after saying the offer stands. After a good bit of wandering though Takashi doesn't really find anything of interest though does notice a forest elf is running the alchemy shop. She finds out from him that he was exiled for liking plants a little too much even for the famous plant lovers that forest elves are (that and heretical plant research). Upon realizing any topic besides plants is likely to be ineffective Takashi leaves the shop and heads towards the inn. Upon arriving there for some drinks the bartender up-sells her into buying room and board for the night.

”I’m not sure, but I can examine it. I’ll give it back. After that I’m looking for somewhere to eat.”

Take a Knowledge check on that interesting staff; pass on findings to comrades.

After getting into town, Yanethi was mostly interested in getting a decent meal and a rest. As such, he walks about town finding the most recommended-by-locals inn where he can eat and spend the night – and possibly have a couple of beers. He prefer to find some fish to eat, really.

You head over to the tavern the guard captain directed your group to and pay for a room and meal special. Sadly being a distance from any major waterways means there are no fish.
((I will wait for Karlan to answer on whether he wants to hand it over but I can do everything else. Also I will only count a person to be finished for the day if they end their actions with going to sleep. So for everyone, don't forget to say your character is heading off to bed or whatever when your done screwing around in town.))

((Okay, well consider Yanethi ready to sleep as soon as the staff action is resolved, please))

TLDR: Yanethi offers to take a look at the magical staff but doesn't get a chance to test his knowledge so instead he goes to the inn and pays for room and board. Then after his meal heads off to bed.

"Karlan, what was that staff-like thing? Do you know?"

Get a light meal from the local inn, I can fast for only so long. Might also be a good idea to search for curatives and healing items too.

Karlan scratches out "magic" on his tablet. He then write, "Yanethi?"

He then evenly distributes his silver around the group, on the basis that shopkeepers don't much like him anyway. He looks for the centre of military power in town.

Ckaeyod hears the guard captain inform Takashi that a room costs 10cp, room and a meal is 15cp, and a meal alone is 8cp while he is talking with Karlan. Sadly you get more out of that conversation than you do with the one you are actually part of as all you know is the staff is "magic" and maybe it should be given to Yanethi.

Karlan gives everyone a silver and then realizes that what counts as military power is right here. Next to the guards office is a small training field. Presumably this is where the guards are trained.
((If what you want is training as with Arienne's desire for magic you will likely have to wait for an Adventurer's Guild where they also offer basic training for a bit of money. Though you are currently so skilled with a sword that their novice level lessons will not be of help. But of course if you want other weapons besides a sword that would be the way to quickly get good at them. In fact as a general note everyone else but Takashi could benefit from the lessons at least by a little bit.))

Karlan pays for a bed and a meal at the tavern, then spends the rest of the evening hunting rats.

After getting a room you get a hankering for a bit of rat hunting. This town might not be the towniest town but a town it is still. [2] Sadly the rats seem to be adept at avoiding you. [3] In fact if it wasn't for the fact every town has rats you would almost suspect this one doesn't.

"Magic.. I might know something about it then."
Attempt to discern it's purpose via psychometry, which would essentially be the psionic version of a knowledge check(?)

You hold the staff in your hand and focus upon it. [6] Suddenly a flood of information invades your head. This staff was made by an apprentice to prove himself to his master. While successful it is more of a training item rather than functional. The best thing that could be said about it is that it does help with the strain of spellcasting. Perfect for someone new to the craft. It is limited to the classical magic elements. While not an amazing tool, because of its ability to help beginners this item is worth more then a basic amplifier staffs. This is because nobles like them for their children to get an edge on commoner mages by letting them start younger without danger. The wood it is crafted with is from the branch of a 1032 year old birch. This was meant to represent protection and common everyday work instead of being connected to any specific order. The slightly glowing gem is a shard of quartz heart. While a common gem normally and just a shard at that this was a part of a gem heart. These are formed in only the biggest of veins at the very center and are naturally charged with magic. Used in the staff to represent clarity of mind forsaking the usual use of quartz as a power storage medium to the point that only the barest glow remains. The base of the staff is capped in copper which is used as a representation of balance and while unseen there are runes carved on the inside of the cap which further this and allow the remaining power from the quartz crystal to flow through the whole staff providing a minor boost to sturdiness. Overall the staff was well made and even its stay with the goblins couldn't damage it. You see that this item was indeed the source of the variant goblin. This staff was lost by a young and brash noble along the road at one point and stayed there for 4 years until a goblin newly born chose it as it's club. Over a month went by and as the goblin grew the staff promoted a clearer train of thought then any goblin has a right to. Finally the goblin using its clarity of mind killed the leader of its tribe and overnight its brain bulged out and it became a variant. The latest owner is a being with a squid head. He managed to loot it along with everything else the previous owners tribe had that was of value. You see that if sold somewhere that knows what it is you can get ~60sp and if you found a noble with a young child who hasn't attempted to learn magic yet you might even be able to get a gold for it though this is a matter of luck.

((Just as a note, classical elements in this case will be going with the Japanese elements. This matches the Greek elements of Earth, Water, Air, and Fire except instead of Aether there is Void. Wiki link for those who care))

Ckaeyod blinked hard and shook his head slightly, it had been a long time since he had to use psychometry, and he had somewhat forgotten how sudden the flow of information is. Quickly righting himself mentally, he spoke- "Interesting.. Given that this staff enhances elemental magic, Yanethi may benefit from this. Not sure if that odd nature magic he uses falls under elemental magic though.. I'd like to see it if you don't mind, Karlan. "

((Just to note it does not enhancing magic. All it does is help with the strain. If we were using a system where you had a certain amount of mana to play with this staff would reduce the cost of spells by a little and protect people attempting an elemental magic they don't have a skill for (basically negating some penalties for nat 1 rolls) that goes away once you have the skill. Oh and it would work for anything Yanethi does that is directly elementally aligned. Affecting the local weather would but affecting some fish to come near a boat would not.))

TLDR: Ckaeyod asks Karlan about the staff he got from the variant goblin. Karlan hands out some of the silver he got before writing that the staff was 'magic' and maybe 'Yanethi' might like it or know about it, Ckaeyod isn't quite sure which. With that Yanethi is about to offer his help in identifing the staff when Ckaeyod takes the staff after mentioning he might know something. With that Ckaeyod uses his psionic powers to perform psychometry on it and suddenly a flood of information assults his mind. He now knows everything about it ((seriously, take look because there is a lot on it)) but the basics is it helps those who are learning classical elemental magic for the first time and costs a good bit. Having a bit on his mind Ckaeyod then heads to the inn and pays for meal and board. Before heading to bed he decides a bit of meditation is a good idea. Sadly it doesn't quite work so he instead spends the time trying to convince himself that his god is the real god.

The next morning everyone wakes up. [6]Yanethi feels that her skill in the spear has gone up. [6]Karlan after going over his experience with salvaging the goblins feels he will do even better in the future. [5]Ckaeyod upon waking feels that his rage is burning deep in his heart raising his psionics to a new level, whether this will be good for him or not is the question. [6]Unnoticed by him consciously his ability to bend reality itself has also slightly expanded though still beyond his control. [6]Takashi akwakes feeling that her ability to wield the scythe now matches her other weapon skills.

Now that another morning has dawned the group can head out. Will they go to the guard captain to inquire about the task he had even though it would delay their moving on? Maybe they will head towards the center of the world by going out the left gate or possibly to the right and the farther into the kingdom they are currently in. "Yes, probably very populated, but I have a question. What jobs do you think we may pick up?"

Cringing at the 'dark gods' comment and taking a complete and total tonal shift (possibly as a result) Ckaeyod looks Arienne right in the eyes. "Don't talk about that so loudly. And it's no God, don't even suggest that. As for the staff.. fine, keep it. I doubt it'll do you much good as a harlot lacks the skill required to make us of it."
