Okay, now I KNOW the game hates me for calling my ship Orange Juice.

Flying through a slug nebula. I pick up a Mantis crew member and stick him in the transporter room. I come across a slug ship, teleport him over to cause some havoc. He even manages to kill one, though his primary job was to distract from repairs.

Slugs contact me with a surrender. I say, "sure, gimme your stuff". Battle music ends...and then the slug ship spontaneously explodes, taking my Mantis along with it  :'(

ETA: And there goes my Zolton engineer, killed in combat against two Mantises in the medbay. Goddammit.

Was the ship on fire by any chance?

And hey, does anyone know if lv3 sensors actually do anything?

If you're traveling through a nebula and the rebels manage to catch up to you, do all the beacons turn into ion storms?

Because that's an awful string of coincidences that I get backed into a corner with no way out except through the rebels, and on the way out, everything is an ion storm. And I don't remember those beacons all being ion storms.

Lost a Rock Cruiser layout B with two Burst Lasers II, one BLIII, Halberd Beam, Pike Beam, Fire Bomb, and Weapon Pre-Igniter that way. So painful.

And hey, does anyone know if lv3 sensors actually do anything?

They let you see how many bars the enemy puts into each system, but otherwise confer no advantages over Lv2 sensors.

I understood nothing, contributed nothing, but still got to win, so good game everybody else.

That's what I thought, but I couldn't see any when I did it.

This includes seeing the exact health of each subsystem, so you know exactly how long it takes until the fire does 1 more damage, or how close to repaired/damaged in melee a is.
Its honestly pretty useful, but it doesn't work on the boss, and the cost is pretty prohibitive.

Actually, I recently won the game for the first time in a ship called the FSS Marmalade. :P

Bwahaha, that's why I thought it did nothing, I grabbed it just before the boss battle to try it out with my extra scrap.

RIPOFF.

I would be up for the tourny. We should add a rule that you MUST Face at least ONE Rebel Elite before leaving a sector. Just to make it a little harder. Oh and no escaping battle...

Escaping battle is a perfectly valid strategy. :P

Although you did give me an interesting idea for a tourney mode.

"Get to the last sector. How long can you survive fighting the rebel fleet before you die?"

Must have been, but I couldn't tell because of the nebula. Other than the loss of a crew member, the exact same thing happened later.

This is why I evac my crew at low ship health now, just in case, until I'm sure there's no fires. I lost a boarding party of 4 that way once. :(

Although now I really just try not to damage their ship when boarding.

I had to shoot out the medical bay, or else they would have just run back for heals <_<

I hit it with a heavy laser, too...that's probably what started the fire.
