I don't think that 4 people can sail a ship that size. And we also don't know HOW to sail a ship. It's not exactly an easy thing to do. We are better off selling it. Where would we go with it anyway? Plus, I would reckon that they still have people on the ship to stop us from boarding anyway. Still, I reckon we should take halfie alive, just to find out who he is working for and stuff.

Ermmm...Himself....
Why does every want to capture the recurring villian? Just kill him and we don't have to worry about looking behind our backs everywhere we go.

You never know what he might tell us, it could lead to all sorts of promising rewards, from him telling us how many people are on that ship, to it's layout, to where the gang hides it's treasure. We can always kill him after he talks.

Doing party inventories for the next update, I have a quick question. Did I ever give Mark a melee weapon?

I forget. Lets just say he lost any that he had, and claims something off these bandits.

[OOC: Party inventories are in the Party & Pets spoiler. This update is big, so I probably missed something. Feel free to point anything out so I can fix it :)]

You decide it's time to use the ring. The water on the beach lowers by about three feet, before returning as a large wave. The retreating bandit, the injured one, and the spear bandit are all washed away into the sea. The half-Goblin would have been carried away with them, but the vines holding him kept him in place.

Asno tosses a bomb at the bandit next to the leader, effectively blowing him into several little bits.

You start saying something about taking the leader alive, but before you finish an arrow shoots from behind you, hitting the half-Goblin dead center in the heart. You hear Mark mumbling something along the lines of “my god damned house” as he slings his bow back over his shoulder. You suppose at least he's gotten his revenge.

You look at the ship for some time, and no crew seems to be on it. You think that's pretty irresponsible of them, but what can you expect from lowly bandits? You untie the Kobolds, but they seem to be sticking around for now.

You pile all the bodies together to loot them later, and head back into the cave to investigate the chest in the hidden room. With the Kobolds you're already blaming the ogres on any missing items, so you decide to take some of the loot. You take a piece of equipment for every member of the group. (+1 Full Set of Human Sized Studded Leather Armor, +1 Rune Covered Willow Staff, +1 Black Colored Clothing with Inner Leather Pads, +1 Gripped Throwing Gloves)

You head back out and investigate the boat. There are still no signs of crew members, so the four of you swim out and enter the deck. After quickly searching every level, you confirm that its empty, and then do a more thorough investigation:
There are three decks, the first being the top deck with the helm and the crow's nest; the middle containing living quarters, a dining area, and the captain's quarters; and the bottom containing many storage containers. Below that is the ballast.

Most of the containers are empty, however you find one crate full of dyed cloth, one crate filled with spices, two barrels full of fresh water, and a crate filled with salted meat and bread. You, Mark, and Max return to the shore with a crate and retrieve the equipment from the dead bandits, finding nothing special. You decide to sell it later. Mark says he lost his melee weapon and claims a sword from the equipment.

Max says that you could probably get a good price for the ship back at Freeport, or you could keep it. He himself has limited sailing abilities, but he says he knows a few capable sailors out of work in Freeport that would be glad to assist you. He mentions that all of them are capable fighters. You call over the Kobolds and ask if they would be willing to help you sail the ship for now, seeing as how you are low on people, and they decide to help. The five of you return to the ship and head to Freeport.

The Kobolds staying on the ship, the four of you turn in the news that the ogres have been dealt with. You also mention that is seemed as if they were destroying some of the objects inside, to cover for what you took. Splitting the reward amongst yourselves, you each receive 12 Silver Coins as payment. (+12 Silver Coins Each)

You give Asno the Dwarven Spell book, she says she can read some of it, but it would take her a while to learn anything from it. She will start studying it.

What would you like to do?

(Shouldn't we have a Criminal/Free-port reputation or is that all under human?)

Try and train Maverick to retrieve or steal small items on your command.

Ask the Kobolds where they are working out of. I doubt they came all the way from the camp on our map just for two measly bags of loot.

Buy more arrows.

Offer to escort Mark back to Stockton if he wants to return home. If he wants to go back, Have Max and Asno remain in town to round up a crew, study the spell book, and look for a job that our ship could preform.

If Mark wants to remain with the group ask if him if he would like to relive the good old days and go for a hunt tomorrow.

Ask around freeport and see if there is anybody willing to offer you some sort of daily wage with flexible hours like you got at the Tinkers Guild in Stockton.

[OOC: A note on crew members: Most of they time they are restricted to staying on the ship or in town or wherever you happen to be. If you brought them adventuring I'd have to make them pretty easy to kill off to stop it from being overpowered ;)]

The four of you, along with the Kobolds, rest in the ship for a while. You notice Max trying to train Maverick to steal small items on command, which seems to be going well. You check out the map in the captain's quarters of the ship. It is a map of the coast near Freeport and several islands near the shore. It has a few places of interest marked, as well as an orange “X” with the word “loot” scribbled on it. There are several towns marked, but only Freeport and Tradewind are named.

You ask the Kobolds where they are working out of, they say that they indeed came from the camp marked on your map, but since being freed they haven't returned yet. The two bags of loot they scrapped up from the cave weren't destined for the camp, but instead for freelance merchants they had met. They explain that, for the time being, they decided to work for themselves instead of their chieftain. They say that if they get a share of the loot, they would kindly be part of your crew.

You ask Mark if he would like to stay with the group now that he could safely return to Stockton.
“My house is gone anyway, I have no reason to go back. Besides,” he says with a grin, “things are much more interesting with the three of you.”
You ask him if, for old times sake, he would like to go hunting tomorrow. He kindly obliges.

Max says he's going to find a worthy captain for the ship, along with some more crew members. He returns about an hour later with three men. One, a large orange haired human with a wooden leg, stands out from the group. He immediately walks up and shakes your hand, introducing himself.

“They call me Johnny, I be a real man of the sea,” he looks over the ship, “Max, this is indeed as fine a vessel as ye said. I'll be happy to sail with you.” (Johnny has joined the party, two human sailors added to crew.)

Crappy character art drawn by me.

He and his sailors head onto the boat, making themselves comfortable for now. You and Max head into town looking for work.
There is a merchant looking for a vessel to send a shipment of metal bars to Tradewind.
A pirate crew is interested in your bombs, and will pay you 75 copper coins per hour you spend making the bombs for them, with the materials supplied.
If you felt like breaking the law a little, you could always set sail and commandeer some goods from passing trade ships.

While in town, you buy some arrows. (-30 Copper Coins, +10 Arrows)
You see some other interesting things for sale:
A single flintlock pistol for 5 silver coins.
Bullets for 3 copper coins each.
Glass Vials for 10 copper coins each.

You decide to pack your camp up and bring your stuff to the ship. When you return, you see Asno studying from the book, saying she is close to learning a new spell.

What would you like to do? Also, what should you name the ship?

Ask Johnny if he can fill in some of the blanks on your sea map.

Ask the rest of the party if they would be willing to contribute some of their silver to invest in proper weapons for ship to ship combat. If you can raise some silver tell Max and Asno that we are heading to Stockton to buy said weapons from the Tinkers guild as soon as Roy and Mark get back from the hunting trip. Tell Johnny to keep his ears open for

Get the measurement of the Kobolds so that we can purchase them some proper gear.

Name the ship Charlemagne's Drider, a powerful leader and the drider... well if you've read the legend of Drizit you would know they were dark elves living underground who had been cursed by the spider queen to spend eternity as drider's, so it's kinda like we're powerful but still outcast with our homes destroyed or living in exile, I think it fits  :D
