You awaken next to the smoldering embers of the previous night's fire. Around you the lush green forest supports a large variety of delightful chirping birds, all of which disturb you and worsen your already considerable hangover. The sky is overcast and there is a light dusting of snow covering the landscape, including your chilled body.
You stretch, yawn, and begin rebuilding the fire, pondering the events of the night before. Intoxicated, you began an argument with the local mayor, which turned quickly into a drunken rant about the way things should be run and why the Gnomish king deserves to be exiled. You reach inside your coat for your flask and take a swig to help lessen your hangover. Alcohol, the cause, and solution, to all of life's little problems.
At any rate, it seems as if you were evicted from your hillside village, and you don't know how well you'll survive in the winter wilderness. It is unlikely you could return any time in the near future, speaking against the king is a crime in which death is a common punishment in your society, and you are lucky they gave you a chance to escape.
You take a quick stock of your supplies, noticing a sleeping bag, flint and steel, three days worth of food, a half full leather water skin that can hold six litres of water when full (you drink on average two a day), a mostly full flask of imported Dwarven wine, a medium sized bronze knife with a wooden handle, a small five year old cloth map, a brass compass, and a bag of fifty-six copper coins.
You need to decide
what to do next, but more importantly, why can't you remember your
name?
The light blue inverted triangles represent villages. None of them are named on this map, but you know by heart your old home and the nearby human town. The red X represents your location.
Foothill Village: Your old home, there's no going back now.
Stockton: A Human village, your village used to trade with them frequently. If you decide to go to a town this is your best choice for now.
