Also you run out of ideas.
That never stopped Final Fantasy.
14 FREAKING GAMES NOW!

They stopped being games around X.
You do have a point there. XIV is an MMO or something, isn't it?
No, XIV is properly classified as an "insult".

Fasa- they made Mechwarrior and Crimson skies, went kind of dormant, and finally got broken up after Shadowrun's market failure (I've heard mixed critical opinions).

XIV is properly classified as an "insult".
10 FREAKING GAMES, 3 MOVIES, AND AN INSULT!
FF must be part Bag of Holding or somethings, thats quite the variety for a game.

Toys For Bob.

They're still alive, you know.

Definitely Microprose, along with Ion Storm, Looking Glass, Westwood - most everyone has mentioned my choices already.

(I wouldn't call Blizzard or Valve dead either, personally.)

Pyramid quoting ftw.

I think I'll never understand how anybody could like FF after part 7, but hey, as long as I don't have to play it.

Part 8 already came with more than 50% movies, iirc, and the story was unbelievably cheesy and stupid. Compared to that part 7 was intelligent and creative, and we have to admit it was pretty generic. But fun and awesome :P

Anyway, maybe FF got better after part 8, but I wouldnt know since I didnt touch the series ever since. It just felt way too dirty, and not in a good way.

FF9 felt pretty light-hearted and was reasonably cutscene light.  It was the opposite of FF8 in a lot of ways.  Hell, thematically it felt halfway to Kingdom Hearts (okay, maybe a quarter of the way).  Also, its ability system didn't blow chunks.  I mean it wasn't revolutionary, but it was fun in the "every FF game has a new ability system" sort of way.  I actually recommend it.

I'd say Quest, but apparently they're still around. Why they haven't produced a new Ogre Battle game since '99, I don't know and probably don't care, but they're due for it damnit.

Theres a new Tactics Ogre game coming out for the psp which is apparently being made by most of the dev team of the old ones. I'm not really sure what the difference is between Ogre Battle and Tactics Ogre, but they're kinda the same Ogre-ey goodness right?

P.S. I was mostly joking about valve. :P I'd have to agree with many people that bullfrog are probobly the devs I miss the most.

Quest and the Ogre Battle IP were purchased by Square in 2002. Quest itself no longer exists as a separate company, but as a dev team within Square-Enix (most notably, Matsuno and Quest did a lot of work on FF12 after Square's purchase).

Unfortunately, the new Tactics Ogre game is just a remake of the SNES Tactics Ogre. That's better than nothing, I guess; but a new game in the series is long overdue. Really sad to see Square-Enix sitting on one of the best IPs in console gaming.

This, just this.

I remember when I played the original one on the snes. It was like, this cartridge I had never seen laying around one of my friend's house, and he gives it to me saying he couldn't understand how to play, then I play it and looooove it.
And I'm gonna be honest and say I actualy enjoyed FF VII when it came out, but not because of story or anything random fangirls claim today, but because it was pretty revolutionary at the time, being one of the first games to blend CG and gameplay. It felt as if I was playing a movie.

Too bad every game ever would do it after that and force me to find out how bad it can be when devs overuse CG and forget gameplay.

Personally, I thought that FFVI had too much movie in it by far.  Then again, my favorite game in the series is FFIV.  Why can't we go back to five person parties?!!
