Alright, time for more re-balancing and planning FUN! This thing is officially saved from the brink of death.

Abculatter_2 withdraws from society!

EDIT: Huh... I just realized, I can't really think of how to better balance the building costs or add more buildings which won't cost building materials. The technology for better building materials isn't too far away, so hopefully things won't teeter out before then. I think you guys will have plenty to do, though, you can still recruit and explore, kill each other if you so choose, and the MIGHTY HAND OF GOD could always WILL lob some FUN! your way.

Oh, and these are the changes I've made;
- Added Storage Pit building
- Cities surrounded by trenches now receive +1 morale, +2 if they're surrounded by palisades, and +3 if they're surrounded by walls. I also increased the combat penalty of trenches and palisades
- Implemented the 2 labor pool system
- Morale will now begin to drop at -1 for every population over 5, with buildings unlocked by later technologies increasing this.
- Removed Perversion of the Essence's affect on base food yield.

So yeah. Make your turns, people.

Post all the rule changes in the first/second post for easier reference please.
EDIT: Also, how does the labor pool system work exactly, and what are the various pools from the different hexes?
DOUBLEEDIT: do i need to farm on the hex with the essense shard to use it?

Labor pool system works as thus:
There are two labor pools in each city, the field-labor pool, and the building-labor pool. Every population increases both of these by 1. Field labor can only be used to work hexes, building labor can only be used to make buildings or improvements.

No, you do not. It affects tile yield.

All the green hexes are filled with glass basically.
And you say that the essence shard effects tile yield, does that mean that it i get it automatically (you sorta answered it already, but your answer wasn't really very clear to me).

The green tiles are vast forests of glass-like shards, which can be readily collected and used.

Yeah, you get it by working the tile.

Also, a note about trenches, palisades and walls; you build them on 1 edge of a hex at a time.

EDIT: I'm tempted to get rid of the tempest-tossed's beginning food, but I really don't want to have yet another change.

Suggestions:
Let's formally call in-city labor and field labor construction and production, respectively. Consistent names will help keep things straight.
I suggest you make high morale affect construction, but not production. That way high morale won't cause huge harvests and an exploding population, but will still give a big boost to doing things.

Questions:
Production is working the terrain, and construction is absolutely everything else, right?
Why would you build a wall when you can build a gate for the same cost? Is the gate slightly weaker or something?

High population reduces moral, so i doubt it would cause a population boom over 5/6
EDIT: You need to build a gate in a hex that you already have a wall/palisade in i think

Hey, wait, what good does the granary do? Isn't food storage limited by total population in that once you get enough, it gets spent to increase your population?

I thought they needed names, too. And yeah, I do need to mess with morale a bit.
Yup, except research, which is a fixed amount for everyone.
Yeah, gate is a bit weaker, and if the enemy is able to somehow gain control of it, it becomes useless.

Hey, wait, what good does the granary do? Isn't food storage limited by total population in that once you get enough, it gets spent to increase your population?

Granary decreases the effects of famine, and makes it so your food doesn't take up your city's main storage capacity.

My turn has been updated according to the new rules.

How much population does one unit of luxuries entertain?
How much food is used for one gluttony luxury point, if possible?

USEC_Officer, you seem to have missed the whole "two labor pools" thing. You've got four production labor to spend on harvesting resources from the terrain, and four construction labor to spend on anything else.

So I have four labour for food, and four for construction?
