I meant above ground power lines. I very very rarely have power outages, like once every few years.

It's the same in Canada.  Above ground lines and very few problems.

Except for that whole ice storm thing in the 90s.  :P

Well, we're back up and running. I think.

Also, I re-installed llamacraft. Lava should be friendlier now.

lava tube diving, huzzah!

Re the power outages: above ground powerlines isn't a bad thing on its own, but above ground power in storm prone areas is.

It's weird my workplace gets frequent powercuts, yet my home which is only five minutes away gets one a year at most.

You are just crazy. I'll consider it, though.

After a couple of chunk resets and so forth, I've stopped playing until the next map starts up.

THE STONE CITY OF PLANEHACKED
WIP: HELP OUT TODAY!

This will be great. This will be huge. This will take a long time.
Because of this, I've decided to make this known to all and open for all to contribute, so that it can be built. I myself may not be able to contribute too much beyond what I have done already, as mid-term exams are coming, and after that end-of-term exams and projects, along with extracurricular studies. This great city is located under the castle north of spawn and opposite the Hanging Gardens (our honorable competition!). It will consist of 9 plateaus and a magma sea. Once the framework is done, buildings will be placed and art made. This was inspired by dwarven cities we all know and love, such as Moria, Undergrotto, and Orzammar (particularly the layout). The Plateaus will be used thusly:

  • Special Purposes: Hall of Heroes (Contributors), etc.
  • Civic Buildings, Churches, Etc
  • Upper Class Residential
  • Markets, Inns, Etc.
  • Middle Class Residential
  • Corporate, Warehouses, Factories, etc
  • Markets, Inns, Etc.
  • Lower Class Residential
  • Graveyards, Slums, Etc.

And just to break it up a bit, here are some statistics for the final city:

  • Height: 49 Blocks
  • Length: ~231 Blocks
  • Blocks Mined: Over 3000000 (That's right, over three million!)
  • Estimated Man Hours: 810

We have completed Rings 1-5 and you can now prototype buildings. No building in the city yet, but when we open it up we want you to be prepared. Here are the guidelines for buildings, so you know what yours has to look like and so that the city will look nice and consistent:

DESIGN CONVENTIONS AND GUIDELINES
  • Buildings should be made of mostly smoothstone and halfsteps. Cobbles shouldn't be the primary building material.
  • If possible, minimise torch usage. Use glass and magma for lighting whenever possible; this is to keep a consistent theme with the Great Hall.
  • Try not to have too many cellars in an aboveground building; buildings embedded int he wall will also be found, and those will take up almost all of the underground real estate.
  • With underground buildings, the height limit is 6 blocks from the lowest to the highest point. This is so that buildings will not intersect plateaus.
  • Length limits are rather flexible: Remember that you're essentially building inside a slice of a pie, and the building must be shaped thusly. Feel free to come over and check it out.
  • Try not to have aboveground buildings rise too much: sprawl rather than rise please. Two, three floors (maybe four for the lower rings) will be plenty, and will alouw the city to keep its shape.
  • Buildings that sprawl off the rings will not be tolerated. If yours happens to need more space than the ring provides, shrink it.

I know it's mediocre, so feel free to ask questions if you feel the need!

October 18th Status Report: Plateau 4 is nearing completion, thanks to all you guys. Hall of Heroes will soon need some expansion, as well as the warehouse. Hopefully it won't be too late when we get to Plateau 6. Morale is high, and with TNT progress is faster than ever.

October 22nd Status Report: Plateau 5 is complete, and the Gorge for Plateau 6 is being cut as we speak. Building prototyping has commenced. We'll make it, guys! We can do this!
