Linux is now spewing walls of ASCII at me.

I just tried "Tar -c world world2.tar"
Anyone know why this would cause my screen to turn into the greyscale matrix for ten minutes straight? It's still going...

You're probably just concatenating the world onto your monitor instead of archiving it.
For one, you specified it the wrong way around, it should be "world2.tar world". For two, you didn't use -f for file output.

Try "tar -cvf world2.tar world" instead.

Ok well it seems I got totally the wrong idea with freenode. We don't actually have to register a group, you can just setup a channel really easily. I've set up a top level one for now and am going through the guides etc.

Ive played for a while on single player, and wanted to try the multiplayer. problem is every time i enter ANY of the address on this forum into the entry field, i get "Failed to connect to server      connection refused: connect" anyone point me the right direction? is there an FAQ im missing? thx guys, and hopefully ill be able to join yall soon
