slowing down at the finish line.  >:(
Why would you do that? Unless you are Usain Bolt slowing down to show off is a bad idea.

At the go-kart tracks I've been to, the "finish line" is more like a pit area; separated from the main track and only entered at the end of the race. Slowing down is usually required by the rules so you don't hit a wall and careen into other people.

Go-karting is actually really boring and terrible.
You're obviously at the wrong go-karting place. The one near us doesn't care what you do. Spinouts, ramming, and brakechecks are common.
The one I went do didn't really care either, but it's just tedious. Everyone else was pedal-to-the-metal, but I have no idea where they were getting their enthusiasm. I just kind of started coasting along in last place waiting for it to end so I could leave.

Did not help that I got soaked from crashing into a deep puddle on a bad turn.

Yeah this. And the kid just entered and pulled right out in front of me. I was so butthurt.

I've been go-karting twice. Both times, I was given the broken kart (as in, I was in last place at full throttle, and losing ground.)

All the karting places I know of don't like it when you chuck banana peels at other drivers. Kinda kills the fun a bit.

A family member of mine who is a police officer got called to a house while on patrol, because a group of kids were playing with a clothesline and one of them accidentally hung himself on it. He was the first one to arrive, so he tried giving the kid CPR for ten minutes before he died right in front of him. Last I talked to him, he has been crying and laying in bed ever since unable to do anything. He's had to deal with so much shit, and he went through the same thing when he had to shoot a guy trying to pull a gun who was the same age (and looked similar) to his dead son.

Like I mean seriously, jesus fucking christ.

This is a small sad by comparison, but my head is killing me and I've been getting waves of nausea and muscle weakness for the last hour or two. If past experience is anything to judge by, I'll be vomiting in a couple of hours. Bleh.

“What are you doing?”, asked Minsky. “I am training a randomly wired neural net to play Tic-Tac-Toe” Sussman replied. “Why is the net wired randomly?”, asked Minsky. “I do not want it to have any preconceptions of how to play”, Sussman said.
Minsky then shut his eyes. “Why do you close your eyes?”, Sussman asked his teacher.
“So that the room will be empty.”
At that moment, Sussman was enlightened.

There's always one kart that's out there and shouldn't be. I started in pole position, and was in last place because the kart couldn't cope. It's not as if I'm big - at the time, I was 15 years old, 65kg and yet my kart could barely keep up.

[blush] Thank you both very much. Gotta be honest, I'm quite sad about this, and a lil angry though I'm not focused with it, but overwhelmingly just sad. It's a puzzle I can't solve and the more effort I put into it, the more exhausted I become.
For what it's worth, this seems peculiar (and tragic) to me too. If he just never liked or tolerated you at all ever there'd be that, but changing his mind like that is weird.

Feeling jealous/threatened after all would be my only guess.

If this is the reason why Dude Guy the Boyfriend is being such a prick then this is when I naively wonder why you can't just talk to him about the mess, Truean. Explaining that there's no reason to feel threatened that you're trying to steal his girlfriend or whatever and that you're only interested in keeping friends with said girlfriend then there could (hopefully) be some progress towards fixing the whole misunderstanding. Or something.

Y'know what I'm saying? you just gotta, like, do the thing and talk about the whatever and stuff. [/buffyspeak]

I have tried to talk to him. He seems to write off my existence, and thus pretty much anything I say, as crap. I am ignored or brushed off to put it far more politely than he would. Telling him isn't the issue. He can't not know.

Frankly, I could say all the right things, at all the right times, in all the right ways, for all the right results and reasons, to all the right people, but it means nothing to him and we both know why.

Ah, well. He's just being a stubborn prick then. That sucks. Dunno what to say about that then. You already mentioned bribery, and that didn't work. Maybe give them(or at least him, if not your friend) space for a while? That's really the only serious advice I could think of, other than the cliche "valiant last stand, no holds barred, yell loud enough to prove you're right" conflict, and that obviously wouldn't work.
