Again, you as of now will be a part of brain-clone. It will have your memories of being on this forum at this very moment. You will be a part of that future iteration of yourself.
The only difference is that you're ensuring that future-you is an awesome robot.
*shrug* It's a philosophical difference, almost impossible to verify (I certainly can't think of any tests), but since I, personally, don't want to die, and I, personally, think that copying my brain into a robot and getting rid of the original is a form of death for ME, then I'd much prefer to do it the round-about way.

It is no more dying that waiting an hour is.
All that would happen is that there would be two brains of identical structure with identical memories. Then you can get rid of the old, fleshy one.

Why get rid of the old one? You could have your own identical-brained robot buddy that can do all the things you want to do but are too busy to work on at the moment, so you have more time to read webcomics and watch Lets Plays.

Problem is my identically-brained robot buddy can potentially live forever, while I'm doomed. I'd rather somehow transfer my consciousness into a robot.

Well you were going to die anyway. It's not like your consciousness was going to immediately jump ship just because it sensed there was a similar mind to yours around.

But... consciousness doesn't work that way.
Any of your brain clones will be conscious, and barring any different experiences after the cloning, they will all have the same consciousnesses as you.

Note the "somehow".

I'm the original "me". If some robot gets a copy of my mind and I die, I'm dead. I wouldn't magically shift to the other, different me. Does that make sense?

Today I saw a train catch a guy.
Well that doesn't happen every day. I hope?

So at my new job, Wednesday-Thursday-Friday is pretty much my weekend since I work weekends. This first "weekend" has been pretty uneventful. Mostly because everyone is studying for exams. Next week they'll be having exams during it. I guess after that I'll actually be able to hang out with people.

You mean your perspective? Or just that you want an original copy of yourself to be around?
Because if it's the first one, then it's kind of meaningless. By the time you've finished reading this the person who started reading will be gone. All that will exist is memories and the imprints of what they've done on the world. "My consciousness" is a thing that can only exist right now, past that it's just memories of that.
And personally, I'd like memories of me to live on in a sweet robot bod.

President Bill Clinton dropped his twitter account @PrezBillyJeff in favor of @BillClinton. This is a tragedy. I propose everyone on here with a twitter account protests with the hashtag #BringBackPrezBillyJeff.

No, I think he means that a copy of his mind is not his mind. It's a completely separate consciousness, which, however, will think identically to him. He wants to be able to experience the world after the death of his original body.

ShoesandHats got it exactly. A copy of me is not-me. I want me to live forever (or as long as I wish), not not-me.
