I wonder how many people have written in their wills that they want their bodies donated to the Mythbusters.  Not science, the Mythbusters.

If anybody is going to spend money on giving me a final sendoff, I want either explosives, rockets, or sharks involved, and the only ones I know of capable of all three are the Mythbusters.

I wonder about whether that's actually legal.
Obviously they could do some serious myth busting with your body, but the question is whether people will like watching someone explode a corpse with rocketsharks.

Replace buster with a cadaver.
The show is suddenly that much more accurate.
Gruesome, but accurate.

Damn. I want to donate my body to Mythbusters now.

And I with my body I obviously mean someone else's body.

Okay, when I die my clone's going to the Mythbusters.
My other clone will have my conciousness duplicated into it and absorbed by a tree, and my real self I will preserve in suspended animation.

That seems awkwardly familiar....

It's hard to claim that human bones wouldn't have broken on impact the way the dummy's did if the dummy was a human corpse.

Then again, it's hard to sell that on public television.

I am SO getting myself cloned and duplicating my consciousness before I die. Sure, I'll still die and vanish into the nothingness of non-existence, but at least I'll have the perfect successor!

Yeah, and that would be interesting, but I still don't know if I'd trust it to be so safe and not-technically-suicide. I'd think it would also require the use of living neurons for the transfer, rather than electronics.

I don't think living neurons are able to transfer consciousness, unless you use some serious electronics to figure out exactly how that consciousness works and build an exact pattern of neurons bla bla bla. Imagine trying to photocopy a sheet of text by coaxing the ink to move to another page. Silly is what that would be.

Yeah, it does seem silly. But then if you photocopy it and print a duplicate, and then toss the original in the shredder, how can you claim that you're holding the original, or even that what you've copied could be a perfect duplicate? Realistically speaking I doubt transferring one's consciousness is going to be possible at all.

Maybe, though, we will eventually be able to repair the brain itself by augmenting our ability to repair tissue in some manner (reducing the effects of aging and allowing a mass of tissue to persist longer even as individual cells die and are replaced), and transfer the tissue directly to a new body.

Consciousness is not a thing that can be "transferred".
It exists in the present and only the present. Once it's in the past it's memories.

Woke up feeling like crap, might be coming down with a bit of something. Which is annoying because I've really got work that needs to be done.

@PNX: Got anything you can take? :c Soup, mebe~?

Yeah, and that would be interesting, but I still don't know if I'd trust it to be so safe and not-technically-suicide. I'd think it would also require the use of living neurons for the transfer, rather than electronics.
I got a few ideas on that, based around gradual-change. Ranges from changing whole parts of the brain (square centimenters or something?) to an electronic analog, to replacing the neurons one by one, remaining conscious throughout (Though to do that we'd need to advance leaps and bounds in nano-tech, to get nanobots able to replicate the exact connections that exist in your brain at the moment of replacement, and a substitute neuron that can do the same things (change connections, grow, etc) without the whole... neurological disease thing. :D

Individualism in consciousness is continuity between points of time and of interactions between objects, in our case neurons. As long as you have the continuity and the interactions, it shouldn't matter what the objects are made of, to an extent. I mean it's probably POSSIBLE to make a "brain" out of cornflakes, but -really really- difficult.

Sorry, this is my pet idea, and why I'm going into neuroscience, to GET these gradual replacement therapies and be able to convert mortal humans to immortal machine GODS!

MWAH haha !

Again, you as of now will be a part of brain-clone. It will have your memories of being on this forum at this very moment. You will be a part of that future iteration of yourself.
The only difference is that you're ensuring that future-you is an awesome robot.
