Don't worry about it Grizzly, this place have a tendency of being really hypersensitive and people here are good blowing things way out of proportions if they get the chance.
I'll show you blowing out of proportion. Prepare for a 50 page flamewar the likes of which mortal minds can scarcely comprehend! I'll bring popcorn for everyone, and we can sell tickets.
Seriously, though, we're not that bad. We do have a tendency to call people on things regardless of the general social trend toward calling people on those things. Comes across as oversensitive, maybe, but probably has more to do with the degree to which people want those social trends to change, given how many have gotten the short end of the relevant metaphorical stick. Most people 'round here are chill enough to go, "Oh, hey, I hadn't considered that my words would be interpreted this way, my bad. Here's my intent, which doesn't necessarily mean I'm blameless, but at least should help indicate that it was an error on my part, not malice." And then most other people are chill enough to go, "Hey, no problem, let's keep on amplifying our relaxed states."
And then we all get a nice little opportunity to contemplate the relative importances of what we say and what people hear, and how it's important to consider both when trying to figure out how to behave in a social context.
In this post, I do exactly what I'm responding to. WILL THE META NEVER CEASE?
Maybe that should've gone at the beginning. Still, what I wrote is all true - the important question, I suppose, is whether you think it needed to be said or not. Personally, I think that in a forum, it's okay to take some time to say things that might not need enunciation in a faster format. Point being, what you say is hypersensitivity and blowing things out of proportion, I say is a decision not to stay silent. Of course, in this case, I'm making that choice over a very small irritation, for reasons that are dubious at best, but most of the time people have more legitimate reasons than not wanting to sleep just yet, and more significant causes for distress.
