I heard about that. If I remember correctly it was because they were in fact trying to rout infantry and along the way were intercepted by German armored cars and massacred. The story of them charging into a battalion of tanks whilst drunk was the rather clever subsequent German propaganda.

Clever Krauts. But they forgot one thing--no one would believe that the Polish get drunk! 

Reminds me a bit of some of the British Army propaganda about the Highlander regiments in the two World Wars. Main difference being that the spin was positive--the Scots would charge a tank with nothing but a kilt and a claymore, not because they was stupid or drunk but because they were THAT BADASS. Whereas the truth was closer to the fact that the British general staff thought the Highlanders made good shock troops and were expendable. Same story with the Indian regiments, except they didn't get touted in the press.

To steer back on topic, it makes me sad that the Highlander regiments don't fight in kilts anymore.

Dress uniforms have a kilt and saber, IIRC. But battle uniforms are just the standard British Army BDU's.

Practical, but disappointing nonetheless. I mean, how better to intimidate the enemy than a kilt? It sends the message, "I'm so badass, I'm not even going to bother wearing PANTS for this battle."

That's why I always mod kilts into DF. And now I can actually make it part of a standard uniform! (now if only I could dye them plaid...)

On Monday here in the UK Avatar was released on DVD. Almost everyone I know both socially and through work keep telling me how wonderful it is. I try not to say anything bad about it but when they notice my lack of enthusiasm I end up having to explain myself, afterwards they look at me as if I murdered someone.

This has made me sad for the last three days.
