Collision is still black magic to me. When I made a platformer the player accidentally got the ability to walljump, which was interesting. They can also cling to ceilings indefinitely if they keep jumping. I guess that if I wasn't lazy that would make a great platformer gimmick.
I use pygame, which makes things simple. The main issue has been getting it to decide which side it was colliding with.

Threw together a c++ program that calculates ackermann function after watching a short video about it on computerphile's youtube and skimming the wikipedia article about it.

Gets up to 3,13 or 4,1 or anything past 5,0 before crashing while trying to compute it. Seems to be working as expected. Yay, recursion and numbers and learning science and stuff.

I use pygame, which makes things simple. The main issue has been getting it to decide which side it was colliding with.
If you assume the environment is static, you can figure out which side is colliding by which direction the character is moving.  Since there's no way they'll collide with a left facing wall while moving right, or a ceiling while moving down.  Only time you'd have problems is if the creature got stuck inside the environment and then changed directions.

You misspelled seance.  Are possessing Draignean?  Are you actually a ghost in the shell? You have to tell us if you are, that's the rule

I suppose that could have worked, though I'm not entirely sure how I would have implemented it...In the end, I chose defining four hitboxes/platform with a "side" property that would report the contacted side on collision.

Same here. Yay! By the old calendar, it could even tenuously be called "a thunderstorm in the beginning of May".
