I'm at it again.  This time, I'm working on a desert fortress, as I mentioned before.

 It's still a work in progress, clearly.  Along with the obvious pyramid, I have a series of houses and apartment buildings in the middle of the city, and a palace in the works on the far right.  The above-ground basement of said palace acts as housing for the military.  The only people who live underground are those haughty nobles, who I have also conveniently assigned a room with a flooding trap.  Enjoy your creature comforts, you adamantium-loving jerk, and know that death will come swiftly as soon as you mandate I build anything out of the metal I can't get.

EDIT: It's pretty much done now.  Done enough to satisfy me, anyway.

Features include the royal pyramid (where the king lives, dines, and will be buried), the tri-color arena (Bauxite/Gypsum alternating pattern used on the ground floor, Chalk for the outer walls and upper seating area, 8 blood-red gem windows on the second floor just 'cause I could), the grand palace (gem windows of various colors on many floors, basement houses the military), and of course the city proper (6 apartment buildings and about two dozen individual houses; this is the only part of the city that will get any bigger now).  And of course, the outer wall has been there pretty much since the start.

Jebus Chrysler that is one epic fort! I tip my hat to you, sir.

What browser are you using? The link should take you to the DFFD site and the page for this application and you should see 'download now' in the upper left, which starts a zip file download.

Edit: The download worked just fine for me, so I'm not sure what the issue is for you labalag.

Also, do you have WinZip? Since thats required for zip files.

Tried using both Firefox 3.5 and IE 8.
The link to the page works fine but when I click the download button it wants to download a .php file.

EDIT: Nevermind used rightclick and save as and it's downloading fine.

Winzip hasn't been needed for opening or creating zip files in over 8 years (since Windows XP was released).

I swear I still have WinZip, I even get ad-emails from them occasionally.

While WinZip does still exist, it's long been integrated into Windows' shell.  XP and up treat .zip as if it were a normal folder (Except for the compression wait after messing with them).

If you insist.  These aren't very spectacular though, it's just what the surface of my fortresses usually look like after a few years.  Behold, The Doomed Castle, constructed by The Doomed Coalition.

Generic overview.  The walls, main keep, magma moat, and shops, and the rec area.

The approach for both invaders and merchants.  The road and ramps are made of bauxite, and there are a pair of magmaproof floodgates where the road meets the moat, allowing the moat to empty into the road if necessary.  So far it has only been tested on some elves, the invaders failed to put up a threat yet.

The rec area is an outdoor meeting hall.  Underneath the floor is a pool of lava warming the stones above for my reptillian fortress residents' comfort.  The openings are grated off, but unfortunately the grates aren't visible.

Inside the keep. Looking towards the entrance.  Behind the 2 bauxite statues is the military's area, with the crossbow murder holes and equipment storage.  The small grey structure is the fortress' solid iron goblin junk compactor.  I Would rather atom smash the garbage than sell it to traders and make a profit.

EDIT:  The Keep is likely going to be expanded upwards with a central tower for the royal tombs in the future.  And crenelations added to the edges

was great fun, I savescumed once because the population glitched and for some reason wouldnt pull any levers, and then the secont time, my retarded recruit bum rushed the zombies(killing the squad leader) and knocking several zombies into the fort scaring the civies away from the lever to close the kill hall. so the kill hall ended up being the OMGZERGRUSH hall. and everyone died.

Overview of the fort, not much to show here. As you can see, there are still some empty z-levels between the ceiling and the walls. These will be king's rooms. On the right ( viewer's) you can see another floating ceiling, which will be a granary

here live nobles. small little wooden village. All dwarves will eventually live in their own homes. Very humanish, I know, but this is a castle. Digging is limited.

here is half of the dining room, which is totally awesome in Visual fortress. Thanks for making this great program, which let us enjoy our dining rooms, with tables chairs and statues. Unluckily, screenshots aren't as good as actually moving in there, but unless I upload the map, that is all I can do
