Elven Liaison?
« on: May 30, 2009, 04:47:45 pm »

I'm in year 601 or so of a relatively modded version of 40d (Got a whole bunch of stuff, mostly a mish-mash with a fair bit of stuff I did).  And the Mountainhome sent me an Elvish liaison with the first Autumn caravan.

I assume that something went down in those 600 years and this one is the descendant of some Elvish slave to the mighty beards of the Dwarves, but still, first time I'd seen this.  I admit I'm a relatively new player still though.

EDIT: Something else that I find weird, is that Udil there is EXCEPTIONALLY slow.  I'm talking she moves a single tile every 10-15 rounds of movement.  Everything races past her.  Sometimes she even gets thirsty just while walking to get a drink.  I've never seen that happen with any other time, modded or not.  She has no past injuries as far as I can tell, she's just...well, legendarily slow.  I've placed her room right next to the farm to make sure she actually gets any work done during the day.

Do her clothes weigh like 8000 dwarf pounds or something?

Naw, just regular pig tail and a few fish leather and cave spider silk pieces.  Nothing special about the clothing.

Did you scroll down the wounds list?
Umm...

I can't really think of anything that I know of.

The only thing that might have done it, is if I messed up the stats on the leather of giant worms, since she DOES have a giant worm leather coat.  Might try forbidding and/or dumping it off of her.

What a trooper! But yeah, I never have seen an elven outpost liason. Can you request exotic pets?

Didn't try.  I don't usually request anything when the Liaison shows up (And, in fact, I don't even trade yet, haven't gotten around to figuring out how).  If that Elf comes back, or shows up at a future fort in this world, I'll make sure to see if I can or not.

Right at this moment though, I need to either figure out how to get the worms fixed, or just how to disable leather from them flat out.

Went back to the autosave and tested.  No exotic pets, unfortunately.   :'(

  • Well, don't double post like that.
  • That's an elf, acting as the dwarven liaison.  Not the elven liaison.

Trading is easy.
  • Build a trade Depot.
  • When traders arrive, you go to said depot in the "q" menu, and press "g"
  • select everything you don't want.  Like toys, prepared meals, and (small giant cave spider silk loincloths).
  • Press F9
  • Press the trader at depot button. whichever it is.
  • Wait
  • When both the broker, your goods you want to sell, and the traders are at the depot, press "t" on the depot in the "q" menu.
  • Select what you want from them.
  • Select what you want to give them in return.
  • Press "t" when you want to trade.
  • ???
  • Profit
A common newbie mistake is pressing "o", for offer.  THIS IS THE WRONG THING TO DO.  That is how you straight up give the traders stuff.
Used in the late game for the king.\

Aye, thanks.  I imagine being able to trade should prove useful at some point in the future, unless I can construct a machine to specifically kill the traders, leaving their goods behind, and then deal with any pesky armies that happen to take offense.

Well, I've made my first trade.  Some giant worm leather that I "accidentally" dumped from the Dwarven caravan, for a wooden kukri.

Better than nothing, although I notice that the leather itself weighs a much more logical 1Γ.  Guess it's some kinda fluke that the coat weighs so damned much.  Too bad I can't convince her to take it off, but it'll likely decay down in another year or so anyway.

Incidentally, how do I go about viewing the value of items, or is that for later on when I get an economy?

I think it'd be better to just throw him in a pit.
By pit I mean "ledge designated as pit some 30 levels above the ground water magma" and that would,as they say be the end of that.
Unless a sword/axedwarf gets to 'em.. then it's rhesus pieces...
