Without jumping it should be pretty easy.

Actually, a walking mode wouldn't be too hard to implement. Many things make it comparatively simple: all surfaces are planar and orthogonal, actual physics doesn't have to be implemented (just "if in wall put back where it was"), no need for a player model or animations or anything, constant walking speed (no need to model friction and the like), even gravity could be fudged with a constant fall speed. If Baboonanza's got the programming talent to implement the graphics improvements he mentioned then I'm sure he could make a mock up in a day or less.

Only potential difficulty I can think of is problems with refreshing the map: if it remembers your position, it could get blocked out (bridge, for example) or the floor disappear.

There's already a walking around mode. Only it's called isometric mode.

I couldn't help but notice, visualizing my latest (and desert-bound) fortress, that Saguaro are rendered as trees.  They're actually cacti.  Very, very tall cacti.  Then again, Tower Caps are also shown as trees (as opposed to earth-shatteringly huge mushrooms), so I guess it's just something to note for future releases on the "to model" list.

More of one of those, "HOW THE HELL AM I SUPPOSED TO FIGURE OUT WHICH IS WHICH?!?" for Baboonanza.  It is really difficult.

Yeah, I usually have tons of modded trees so a "general" tree is ok. However a possibility to define specific raw objects to have an unique model would be nice.

I'm at it again.  This time, I'm working on a desert fortress, as I mentioned before.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

EDIT: It's pretty much done now.  Done enough to satisfy me, anyway.

I've read the entire thread, I've tried the fixes and running different maps, the thing just won't load the map and display it. It either crashes after it "loads" the map or after a few seconds and I can dink around with the side bar.

I'm running a quad-core AMD 2.4, Nvidia 9500 G5 (latest drivers), Windows Vista, 8 GB Ram.

I'm stumped, I tried the shading, I tried disabling other stuff, I tried the noise... I'm running 802 VF.
