I've just posted a new version, 0.802.

Changes:
- 40d16/15 support added
- Fixed invisible metal statues
- Fixed strange bridges (both the wonkiness caused by noise and the stretching)
- Improved noise generation/application. Buildings appearing in little depression is somewhat unavoidable I'm afraid (short of disabling geometry noise), but I've added some addition smoothing so it should be less obvious now.
- Fixed some smaller bugs with ramps, falling water, roads etc.
- Empty layers are now trimmed during map-loading to reduce memory overhead and slightly improve performance.
- Fixed cameras

The models in the download are in a simple binary format for efficient loading. It should also load .obj files. Materials are specified differently, so .mtl files are ignored.

Nice, the bridge clipping is fixed. :) As is the artifact statue.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)
It's bismuth bronze btw and there are two cages further back, each holding a grizzly and an unicorn. Both bought off of the elves.

At this point, I don't think so unless you mess with the coding.
However, there are buildings coming soon, so be patient.  ;)

Also, I just really don't like WoW or anything relating to it. ::)

WoW contains polygons and allows you to do things by pushing buttons.  Uh oh.
Yeah, now you're getting it. Mentioning world of warcraft (or worse, Call of Duty 4) around the "Indie Game" crowd is an absolute death sentence. Abandon all hope, ye who talk about popular video games here.
I did perhaps take primary offense at how the suggestion was worded.

"You should make it like World of Warcraft."

Hold on, let's look at this...

"You should..."

What I "should" is do whatever is assigned to me by professors at school or bosses at work to ensure good grades and a steady paycheck.  You should keep in mind that Toady makes DF because he wants to, Baboonanza makes Visual Fortress because he wants to, and people like Grey Hunter and I make models for Visual Fortress because we want to, and we don't have to answer to you.  Keep in mind that when I was making suggestions to Grey Hunter, I didn't tell him that he "should" do anything, because frankly, he's offering to let us use the models he made for GlodStory, which is already very generous.  The worst I said was "Try doing this," which while it technically has the same meaning, represents in a different way.  I also offered to donate my own time helping work on his models, but I didn't say that he "should" let everyone have his models.  He has anyway, and I at least appreciate that a lot.

You "should" also keep in mind that when you tell someone that they "should" or "must," that you are exerting authority over them, and if that authority hasn't already been established, for example in a forum where we're all strangers and volunteers, then they're going to take offense at it and push back, because frankly, who are you to tell anyone that they "should" do anything?

Yes, actually, I am trying to get myself banned.  I wish Toady would quit working on this worthless piece of junk and go back to teaching math.

May I recommend that you move your vendetta against the word "should" to a General Discussion thread?

Fixed it for you.

"Having faith" that the bridge will not fall, implies that the bridge itself isn't that trustworthy. It's not that different from "I pray that the bridge will hold my weight."

Well played.

EDIT: Bab, Would it be difficult to add collision detection to the camera? So that you can walk around all FPS style? :P

Small suggestion: shiny effect for metals. So that there would be a difference between orthoclase and gold fort ;)

I second this. The ability to tell metals from mere stone would do wonders for some of the more impressive forts.
