If it were purely top-down it could be Helherron.

I think the game was more top-down than the 3/4 view of Arcanum and Fallout, and zoomed-out, so it may have helped the graphic part.
Maybe, older Spiderweb Avernum games?
I don't think that's them. I remember it younger than the Avernum games, and the view of Helherron is more like it. ^^'

90's rpg, maybe tsr. Top down where the protagonist infiltrates a monsters hive and slowly transforms into one himself as he kills the queens and consumes the jelly...?

'90s game that came out on the Mac and maybe PC to.

You were a caveman. You had to make your own stone tools, find your own flint. The stone tool mini game, required you to strike at the stone, with a template on it, by pressing down the mouse button and striking the stone in the right spot with the right strength.

I am fairly certain that you explored the world in first person mode. You had to get food and water. When you ran into other cave person, they were strangers, and you could attack to them, try to make friends or boast that you were a god of thunder, and then usually get murdered.

Was on this forum not too long ago. A space game in the vein of the X series but done in 2D.

Era?  Could be lots of things depending on which part of X you mean.  Trade?  Diplomacy?  Industry?

Star Sector comes to mind, as something that was on this forum. http://fractalsoftworks.com/

not X as in 4X. I meant X as in the "X" universe like X3: Terran Conflict

Yes.  The characteristics I listed are generaly what distinguished X from, say, wing commander.

If you wanted more trade with it, Escape Velocity or NAEV might be it.  More story and faction stuff, Star Point Gemini might be closer.

Really, Star Sector is the only one that hits all those elements.

Unless you mean the one being written by the X modder?  I forget the name.
