Scavenge metal and electronic components.
Build a gun, and, say, 5 bullets.
Go in random direction, looking for food and water, but always on alert for anything alive.
+1 and follow the green arrow.

+1, we're here now- might as well also investigate the possibility of commandeering this ship instead.

We'd have to fix up the hull, which might take a lot of metal, and where would we get the oxygen? This ship is much bigger than our capsule -- if we pump all the air from the latter into the former we'd have a day's oxygen at best.

Not to mention having to rid ourselves of the inhabitants of the ship, if there are any.

Bloop, that's incorrect. If you pump all the air into the bigger ship, you have the same amount of oxygen, meaning it would sustain life for the same amount of time on the big ship as in your little pod. It might be spread too thin to breathe, however, which would be an issue, but I think that in this case we actually have 6 pod-sized atmospheres (Or however many we actually have left) stored somewhere.

Hopefully this thing has functioning engines/life support (A completely efficient air-recycling system would be EXCELLENT right about now)/canned air somewhere, which would alleviate our problems, leaving us with the problems of "What left us in space and what disabled our pod and what disabled this ship?" which is plenty to go on, I think.

Anyway, +1 to making the gun and wandering in the green-arrow direction (And praying that it's indicating "safety" or "medbay" and not radiation).

That is exactly what I was talking about. I was saying it would take at most a day for the air to become too thin to breathe.

Also, I'm not sure whether they have any pressurized oxygen stored, but it would be worth noting if we come across it.

But that's not how air works.

If the air is thick enough to breathe, it won't be vanishing as we breathe it. The oxygen content is reduced and replaced with CO2, but that does not cause any health issues---at least, not before you run out of O2 and die.

Nah, man, the rate of diffusion could become a problem if the (absolute) oxygen content in each breath gets too low. There might be enough oxygen *in the entire ship* to sustain you for longer, but it's not here where you're breathing, so you die.

Then why have all humans on earth not died?

Anyway, I'm playing from the assumption that there is that much volume of air stored on our spacecraft. We'll last for perhaps a little less time, but not significantly, not in this game's environment.

Then why have all humans on earth not died?
... because we don't seal ourselves into metal cans isolated by vacuum from our ⅕-oxygen atmosphere? Whereas people stuck without adequate ventilation do die for precisely that reason.

I mean, you don't seriously think that was a counterargument, right? You're just joking or trying to brush off the conversation? Please?

Mostly joking. After all, we have plants.

Not that your reply was any more scientifically accurate  :P

Which is why I said "investigate the possibility of", rather than jump straight to taking over a ship which could be infested by xenomorphs for all we know. Even if taking over is unviable right now, it also doubles as checking what systems we can salvage for ourselves.

Day 8: The morning is spent crafting a pistol and several rounds of ammunition, 5 in total. You realize somewhere you made a mistake, the damage for the pistol is 20, not 2. Knowing full well you could take down another person, if it really came to it, made you feel a bit better about exploring the unknown vessel. Yout think for a bit about piloting this vessel and disregaurd the idea, its too damaged. Could you build a functioning dingy that's larger and better than your tiny escape pod? Probably.

Speaking of exploring the vessel, you head back over, pulling yourself along the tether, and enter the ship. You begin with the pile of debris, and find that a vast majority of it is unusable. Some is water damaged, some burnt, some is literal garbage. You manage to collect 20 metal out of the trash pile.

You head along the green arrow corridor and quickly find yourself in a small hydroponics section. All and all, this section is bigger than your pod, and it still has emergency power! Most of the plants have died off due to lack of light, but it looks like there are a few containers of seeds and other farming supplies, not to mention oxygen. With all the stuff here, you could set up a sustainable food supply, or if you took the algae tub route, natural oxygen recycling. There's also some other equipment in the area to take note of. First are the hydroponics basins, those are important and have everything from light to pumps. There's also a composting machine and a rudimentary genesplicer. Last thing is a tank of 4 water! Truly your cup floweth over with fortuna, there is absolutely nothing that could be bad about this... Except that malfunctioning farmbot. That may be an issue.

What kind of malfunction, how fast does it move, and how susceptible is it to a remote PDA hack?

Failing that last one, how susceptible is it to a bullet to the battery?

Look up schematics for a welder. We can lop off rooms of the ship with the mining laser and just weld them onto our own.

More immediately though, disable farming robot with as little damage to the system as possible.

+1 to disabling farming bot.

After that, basically just loot everything, including undamaged parts from the farming bot.

Also install plants on our space capsule and set up any required growing equipment from the hydroponics bay as well.

What's interesting, is that plants can supply us with infinite air AND infinite food, if we somehow get an infinite water source.
