C. I feel like lands would be considered an insult, as likely would knowing something we're not supposed to. As well we just lost that chunk of economy, so it'll be nice as a buffer.

They snoop on us all the time, enough to know about our non-dwarven artifacts. A little bit of Intel gathering between nations should be expected.

I agree that asking for thee land might be insulting though.

Asking for a bunch of cash might also be a bad idea. Huge influxes of money would just feed our inflation problem.

Ergo, if the explanation is satisfactory, we should ask for an artifact. Perhaps they could remake the succession staff, or give us some armor to go with our sword.

I'm saying D mostly because he's trying not to make the first offer. We can play that game, too.

With the magic candlestick I don't think the toxic mists would actually prevent us from taking over Ankurvat . . . but if they have the box elsewhere, perhaps they can control it as well. It's worth a try as our opening offer if we must go first, expecting he'll want to talk us down from whatever we say.

What I'd really like, if Haspen allows it, is the option to incorporate the dwarven settlement into the Empire, allowing our subjects to intersettle with the dwarves. We need to work on that sort of thing again.

Wizards and Sorceresses are both higher than dwarves on the magic totem pole, and can likely thwart their runesmiths.

A wizard might have stolen our stuff because he was mad about our patronizing Sorceresses.

A sorceress might have done it because somebody paid her.

B is my preference, but I don't mind D too badly. I'm worried we may upset him, but eh. Nothing ventured nothing gained. I almost wouldn't mind letting him go for nothing; call it a good will gesture for our own occasionally stubborn actions in the past.

The odd part was that the thief targeted both dwarf and sorceress artifacts. That doesn't fit with what we know about wizards, and possibly not elves either. Sorceress magic is a possibility but it leaves open who hired her. (My own speculation is that "runic GPS tracking" is exaggerated but the dwarves don't want to admit their limitation. I don't really blame them for the theft itself.)
