Mostly telepathy, which is odd considering that their brains are mostly rotten by now. How much do I owe you?

"Oh my, of course. 4 coppers."

The necromancer sighs, draws a coin purse from his robe, and sets four coins on the counter.

"Just so lonely sometimes."

Sulus: Kurist...
Will you pay your tab now?
It's been 2 weeks.

(Is Kurist a real dwarven name?)

The necromancer clenches his fist. He takes a few uncomfortable steps away from the drunkard before responding.

"They're not exactly the best company. Last time I tried visiting a town, I was driven out by an angry mob. The name's Ethurir, by the way."

The necromancer takes off his mask, revealing a pale face with bone-white eyes.

"I've lived for 826 years, Sulus. I've seen it all. I'm ready for the end, but it never seems to come. I'm too weak to do it myself. Once, when I was young, I did have a love. Never again, though. I watched her age, and eventually die, while I stayed eternally young. It was a pain far worse than death."

Ethurir waves his hand, and his two skeletons leave.

"I'm tired, friend. Perhaps you understand, being a veteran and all. I see it in your eyes."

Ethurir takes a small sip of his beer, and slumps in his seat.

Sulus: I've seen many things, but not what you have seen. Immortality is not a thing I've experienced.

I have fought a necromancer before. Not as calm as you. He had madness in his eyes. I've always thought why they chose the life of an immortal. But now I can ask.
Why did you become a necromancer? Research? Immortality? What?

Ethurir chuckles, but is far from jovial.

"I was a knight in service of the grand city of Enigdur. A necromancer had recently plagued the countryside, and I was sent to slay him and his undead thralls. Indeed, I made quick work of him. However, after I had slain him, I picked up his tablet and started reading, wondering what words could possibly give a man power over life and death.

I was a fool."

Ethurir laughs again, a slow, sad laugh.

"All necromancers are doomed to fall to madness one day or another - no man was meant to live forever. I suppose that one day I too shall go insane. I'm afraid that day isn't far off."

Ethurir downs the last of his beer.

"I'll take another."

Sulus: Here.

*gives a dwarven beer filled mug to him*

Life seems to always be horrid in one way or another. Never peaceful. Never good.

Enigdur, huh?
Is it still around or has it crumbled?
I never really paid much attention to the human cities.

"It's still around, although barely. It used to be the pinnacle of culture, a place where all the races were brought together by intellect and art. Now the grand city is no more than crumbling ruins, infested with the undead and various cave creatures."

Ethurir stretches, finishes his beer, and dons his mask once again.

"It's been good talking to you, Sulus. Perhaps circumstances will allow for my return to your establishment."

Ethurir places another two coppers on the counter and leaves. Soon after, Lozuk, the friendly neighborhood goblin mercenary, enters.

"Good ta see ya again. I'll have a tankard of whatever hits the hardest."

"Keh heh, this stuff always hits the spot. Better than any sunshine those damned elves drink.

Anyways, life hasn't been treatin' old me the finest. A drink always soothes the worst of yer pains though, that's for sure!

I've fallen on hard times, and I have ta return to the mercenary's life. How are things faring with yerself?"
