Heh, that's sooo different than it is here.
Ears clogged? Call GP's office. Assistant will tell you to use olive oil for a few days (2-3 days most certainly not a whole week) and schedule a 10 minute appointment with assistant to rinse the gunk out. Covered by basic insurance, so it's free.
You don't need to leave much oil in it overnight. Just soak it like I described and allow the oil to flow out again. I wouldn't call it ' leaving liquid in it, It's more like ' leaving it greased'.

It's such a minor procedure that doesn't even require a doctor, I wouldn't know why on earth they'd charge high fees for it or even send you to a clinic.
The GP practices also have nurses who do the usual nurse stuff, including cleaning out your ears, you just have to go through the practice first.

Anyways, I'm booked in for next Wednesday. Thank God.

I'm a bit vertigous. Vertaginous. Whatever the word is for being affected by vertigo today. Kind of unpleasant feeling like everything's just a smidge off-kilter, and really distracting. I'm skipping my second and third lectures today because I couldn't concentrate in the first.

This isn't helped by the fact I kept waking up again last night, so I'm pretty tired too.

Just coming back to say thanks Hector. I don't mean to be a drain on the empathy of this community like I have been for 15+ years now. Still after all that time though, someone always steps up to offer a nice word and some advice.

Oh hush you. No one is ever going to call you out for needing a Dwarven Therapist or two. :P

You know why open source never "makes it big?" I'll tell you: every time you try to do something, you end up needing to download six extra tools/packages to do the thing you're trying to do.

Chrome on my laptop is shitting the bed, with 100% cpu usage just trying to have 2-3 webpages open. Sigh.

Had a dream where I was gonna eat some absolutely delicious food, then my body blue-balled me by waking me up.

I keep cnbc open on a browser to my relevant trades while I browse the internet for news.  It's reporting a 2% drop in SIRIus Satellite the broadcasting company pre-market, prompting me to cash out.  Going my broker, it's actually up a single point rn, not down 40.

I am perturbed about the trend of getting news from influencers instead of news outlets, but if cnbc is going to be so blatantly wrong ...

I do software testing. The Acceptance Criteria is the Word and the Law.

the word and the law has been either woefully unspecific 'when the product reaches the translation adapter, the product is translated', incorrect 'when an order on address set is complete, FOO' (it's not on address set, it's on existing account on address set), or flat-out ignored 'error message has EXACT wording: XYZ' (nope just put something similar to it in and call it a day), 'test against this specific account' (account does not exist or does not match test scenario criteria).

and so i have project managers pushing to close my bug reports as being mistested or misunderstood, then when i ask them 'well, is this actually what we're looking for from this code?' they go 'hmm well i dunno i'd better go ask someone'

like, you were going to close the bug report because you kind of sort of thought it was probably correct?

why am i putting any effort in when this whole project is rigorously and enthusiastically half-assed?

Could always do what my company does. Which is zero QA beyond what the devs test and what customer report :P

Well, my left ear's given up and clogged completely now. Or the earwax is pressing on the drum, one of those two. Regardless, it's another two days until the cleaning and unless it sorts itself out it's back to the uncomfortable fullness and one-sided deafness.

Caught myself pulling out beard hairs again, so I need to shave.

I definitely feel stressed, like I did last time, but I'm not sure why.

Anxiety has a reason, but you dont need to be consciously aware of it now to destress.  The best advice Ive ever gotten is to take 30 minutes a day, no matter what, and do something to detox yourself.  Whatever it is, thats your 30 minutes, and nobody can ever take it.

I'm very anxious typing this out, and this isn't the right place to ask for advice but I don't want to make a thread for one question. The question is about asking my current manager for a raise, when otherwise I'm getting a pay cut this year. I don't want to give too much info here, I feel that if I type too much it'll somehow get discovered and used against me. Though that sounds irrational when I type it out, that's how it feels. I'm hoping that someone here can DM me and they can proofread the email I intend on sending. I wouldn't normally ask this of you guys, but I trust you guys, and I don't really have anyone else to turn to in my life and this feels so vitally important, it might determine the trajectory of my life from this point.

Shared kitchen is Officially Dirty - I saw my first ever wild cockroach in there. Didn't even know the UK had cockroaches until then. Seems it was a German cockroach, ironically.

Two other people saw it too. I'm *hoping* that knowing they're knocking about means people will, at a bare minimum, clean up after themselves but I know this lot. They wouldn't keep a communal area tidy if it was literally putting their lives at risk.

I recently learned that the preying mantis is not related to grasshoppers or crickets. It's a close cousin of cockroaches.
