Ah fuck I just realised this year has been so shitty I even forgot about the necrothread
Good thing someone else remembered to keep up the ritual, who knows what will happen if they don't preform it every year!

So my ear's a bit better today, I can hear out of it mostly normally now? Just got some persistent tinnitus now. Gonna keep applying the anti-wax stuff for a while though to make sure it's all cleared.

You shouldn't be the one sticking stuff in your ear.
An ear doctor can give you a cleaning, which should be free with most modern insurance.

Yeah, a doctor's assistent can very easily and comfortably clean your ears. You don't need an ear doctor for that. A GP's assistant can do that just fine.
However, before going there, it is advised always to pre-treat your ear for a few days with something as simple as some olive (or sunflower) oil. It will make the ear wax softer and easier to rinse. Tilt your head so your ear faces straight upwards, pour half a teaspoon of oil into the ear, softly knead your ear from the outside a little so it spreads well, then tilt your head the other way to let it flow out again. Repeat for the other ear. Feel free to clean the outside of the ear with some soft tissue so you don't get your pillow all fatty from the oil.

It's not an unpleasant treatment, ear rinsing. I kinda like the feeling haha. They use this thing that looks like a huge ass metal syringe without needle, it looks kinda scary but it will just be used to create water pressure when rinsing your ears with some comfortably warm water.

Just be aware that sometimes doctors can be dinguses too. My GP ages ago (wonderful woman and I love her to bits for helping me through some very tough times) gave my ears a quick peep because I mentioned I'd been having some issues with dullened sound and some discomfort on that side. She said she couldn't see anything in there, and to see if it resolved itself in a few days. I waited a while, it didn't fix itself, so I went back.

Different doc taking over for her, I explained the prior session. He took a look, and commented "...well I can understand not seeing anything. It's completely packed with wax", and then flushed a few hefty chunks out. Good times.

My own mild upset is that I for the life of me just can't seem to focus on laying down more of the megadungeon I'm trying to put together for my party. Every time I swap back to the tab, I can maybe muddle around for a little bit, erase one corridor/room and put in a different one, and then I'm just lost staring at the page and hoping for something to happen.

Feel like I'm teetering on the edge of another depressive episode. Shower has become the place to ruminate on my emotional damage. I'm tired of the limitations of my hip and the constant low-grade irritation and that sitting remains uncomfortable for lengths of time (and it's a fracture in my femur by the hip, what else am i going to do with it).

I know I've made major strides (well, calling them strides is an overstatement) each new week, but it'll be problematic for months, not weeks. Getting out and doing stuff is exhausting. Doing chores in is exhausting. Living in my body is exhausting. Living in my head is exhausting. I can't even curl up into a ball in bed the way I want to. Well, not this week, anyways.

It will be fine. It will get better. Will's not Is, though.

Is there a possibility that you have quit the heavier pain meds and switched to ibuprofen? Perhaps the withdrawal from heavier meds makes you feel less cheerful?

Nah. I've been taking maybe one of the heavier stuff every three days for the last week and a half or so. Was going gentle on the stuff since week two to begin with. It's just common fare The Sad. Might've juked it for a day though.

An ear doctor can give you a cleaning, which should be free with most modern insurance.

Welcome to the UK, you'll be lucky if you can get your ear cleared at the local NHS clinic, it's expensive to do it at a private one, and regardless they'll be asking you to put earwax softener in it for at least a week before they'll make any effort. Just in case it clears itself out.

The stuff I'm sticking in is a glycerol/v. dilute peroxide mix. I know what whoeveritwas said about the peroxide but this is a thing you leave in for a few minutes then flush out. The alternative is leaving olive oil in overnight and right now any liquid in that ear gives me vertigo, I assume because it gets trapped against the drum by the wax. Normally not the case, just started happening since it clogged.

Heh, that's sooo different than it is here.
Ears clogged? Call GP's office. Assistant will tell you to use olive oil for a few days (2-3 days most certainly not a whole week) and schedule a 10 minute appointment with assistant to rinse the gunk out. Covered by basic insurance, so it's free.
You don't need to leave much oil in it overnight. Just soak it like I described and allow the oil to flow out again. I wouldn't call it ' leaving liquid in it, It's more like ' leaving it greased'.

It's such a minor procedure that doesn't even require a doctor, I wouldn't know why on earth they'd charge high fees for it or even send you to a clinic.

I am leaving one job for another. Transferring really.
Others have quit without notice. I would not.
Old boss is now saying they are counting on me to keep the team above water....
Old boss also has family emergency as of last week. Relative with broken hip, etc.
I have been told not to tell anyone until I have a final job offer.
I don't currently have a final job offer, but they are trying to rush my stuff through background checks.

New boss says transfer date may be 12/1, but we'll see. This is less than 2 weeks notice, which I ... want to give.

I imagine my start/transfer date would be 2 weeks after I get a final job offer...? I kinda hope. Much as I like the idea of leaving it all behind I don't wanna roll that way and leave a place in a state I can't come back to it if shit hits the fan.

Also, is this appropriate to send to new boss in regards to happy thanksgiving?

I have been told there is a chat they have for off hours stuff. Obviously I am not in it yet.

Just coming back to say thanks Hector. I don't mean to be a drain on the empathy of this community like I have been for 15+ years now. Still after all that time though, someone always steps up to offer a nice word and some advice.

It is! I am having great fun there once a week, ever since I started volunteering there 2 and a half years ago.
