1. All gas was handled by private companies, and most citizens used wood or coal as fuel for their houses.
2. Nunzillor answered correctly.
3. There will be major differences between the two timelines; Germany is a powerhouse; there was no Cold War, nuclear weapons were never invented, colonialism is still alive, the USA is a great power but not THE great power (same with USSR), etc.
Military tech is much less advanced due to WW2 never occurring; there may be basic handheld rocket launchers that exist, but no mass produced RPGs. Jet engines don't exist yet either, and tank technology is not quite as advanced as during ww2 (no heavy tanks, but good light tanks exist). Eastern Europe never fell under the Iron Curtain, with Poland and many other Eastern European countries still existing. The sino-Japanese war occurred, leading to Japan's rise as a powerful eastern power and eastern China falling under their control, allowing previously subjugated regions to claim independence. Britain is still at the peak of their colonial ambitions, while Germany was reformed by a hitler-like leader but never expanded aggressively into the Rhineland, Austria, Czechoslovakia, or Poland. The German people are still heavily bitter against the French and British over the treaty of Versailles, and there are fears that war may break out.
If you have any more questions regarding alternate history, feel free to ask. This was typed on my phone so it's probably really rambling.
