This game is inspired by a mixture of Nomic and 1984.
IC ThreadAs the last gunshot rings out across the nation, a strange sort of silence falls upon it. The last casualty of war topples down the steps of the raised wooden platform, resting at last upon the muddy ground. Several seconds later, a cheer goes up across the crowd as the man’s killer holds forth the fool’s golden crown, before hurling it into the crowd - a symbol to all that the new leaders rule would be for the people!Game Overview:
Following a revolution, you, the leaders of said revolution, have gathered. Forming a Code for all officials to follow, you establish ministries that focus on certain areas of the nation’s government. The specific path you desire to take (communism, capitalism, police state, democracy) is up to the players participating. At the start, there will be no laws and no government organizations - everything is yet to be established. It therefore falls upon the players to coordinate their actions to promote the nation’s well-being.
Joining:
If attempting to join before the game starts, you need merely post what Ministry you wish to represent. This can be anything, though it is advised that it isn’t too narrow (Ministry of Tables) nor too broad (Ministry of Government). The names are largely meaningless, but serve to tell other players what your primary focus is. However, the actual names have NO INGAME EFFECT. Naming yourself Ministry of Education gives you no default power over education, nor does it require you to establish power over it (though it is advised you perform actions within what you named yourself, if only for ease of play).
If joining after the game starts, you will post a ministry - this can be either a leaderless ministry currently in the game or a new ministry. At that point, you will have the potential of joining when one of two things happens; either the current ministries approve your Ministry (through a vote), or a current ministry requires a new leader (player leaving or new ministry established). Anyone not already in the game may take control of a leaderless ministry without a vote, but a vote is required to join the game as a NEW ministry.
Posting and Turns:
Turns will take place AT MINIMUM three days apart. This is to give players a chance to respond to the turn and other player’s postings. Turns will be hopefully posted within three to seven days within the last one, but no promises - especially when the game inevitably begins to spiral out of control. Players must atleast respond to the last turn’s proposals; failure to do so two turns in a row will result in removal from the game.
Proposals:
Proposals are suggested changes to the government. This might be in the form of altering the Code, changing laws or taxes, or perhaps forcing ministries to perform actions. For example, one might propose: new SECTION, labelled “laws” to create a new section (similar to the Code) in which players might propose new laws. Or perhaps one might make taxing illegal except for one ministry - it is still POSSIBLE for other ministries to tax, but there may be ingame penalties from the GM or penalties imposed on them by other players (such as a dismantling of their ministry).
Players are limited to one proposal per turn (by default). They should be bolded and in blue. Proposals are NOT OFFICIAL (and need not be voted on) until the NEXT turn; if you propose something after turn three happens, it will not be official until turn four rolls around; and any votes are meaningless until then. A proposal is official once the GM posts it in the turn; all players must then post whether they SUPPORT, OPPOSE, or ABSTAIN from the proposal; this should be done for all official proposals (for my sanity, please bold and color them as demonstrated above) Even if you don’t want to respond to proposals, you should at least write ABSTAIN on each proposal.
Stats and Sheets:
There are no stats and no sheets at the start. There are abstracts, of course, but no one need keep track of anything. Stats will only be included after players request, recruit, census, etc. For example, if the “Tax Ministry” were to collect $10,000 in taxes, $ would be a new resource we would have to keep track of. Or if the Labor Ministry were to perform a census of all population, population would be a stat I’d have to keep track of. The game is only complicated if the players force it to be (though if you want military, police, utilities, health, etc. you will require said stats to be implemented - this will have to be done by the players).
Actions:
Actions are the meat of the game - they’re what you actually “do”. Actions require a set of precise instructions; they need to have a PURPOSE and a MEANS (for my sake, please bold and color actions purple). For example, typing “I recruit five hundred employees” is meaningless. It does not contain enough information for me to process it, and I will not do so. You should instead type something along the lines of “I recruit five hundred random citizens to be employed as soldiers using $1000.” This allows me to give you five hundred soldier-type employees, paying $2 to each every turn. However, you need to be specific with your actions - otherwise I simply can’t process them. You may post these actions (preferred) publicly or PM them to the GM. Keep in mind, even private actions may come to the attention of the rest of the players. Proposals can also FORCE players to perform actions (Ministry X pays every other Ministry $10 each turn). These actions are implicit and need not be posted; if you wish to not perform the action, that should be posted or PMed as such.
Discussion:
OOC Discussion should remain in this thread. Conversation between the ministries is a free action, and can be performed IC. It is assumed that all players are listening to said conversations; if you wish to discuss privately, please PM - I’d rather not have any claims of cheating and whatnot [ANY information said in the IC said, whether it's spoilered or not, is counted as public information. If the players want to get together and form a new bullet on the Code making spoilers restricted, they could go ahead and do that].
Other (Questions):
1. Year will probably be in the twentieth century somewhere, but if you have a preference for a different date feel free to note so. If no one cares, it will probably take place in about where the world was at the end of WW2.
