The druid scratched at his beard, then shrugged. "Well, we'd be pleased to have your assistance, Ayleth. What sort of thing can you do?"

At Oleg's question, he shook his head. "It's magical fire, so you'll be fine. An ambush sounds like it should work fairly well with this creature."

Well, 'ere goes. Let's hope I haven't forgotten all the basics...

Climb above the entrance and take position there.

"I know spells that can damage, cause fear, or weaken. I also happen to know a little summon spell." Ayleth says, positioning herself a good distance away from the entrance.

You wait for four long minutes.

Then a crazy man-sized spider comes charging out of the mines.

Grinning, Beolas darts in just after the flames pass.

The spider is hit!

The spider is immediately consumed by the flames and keels over.

The spider is dead.

There is an eerie silence after the death of the beast. A few dwarves, including the mayor from yesterday, walk over and gasp.

The mayor asks you, "What happened?"

[Nerjin]

"You've gotta be fucking kidding me." Sacha mumbles to herself looking at the roasting corpse before addressing the Mayor "We handled the issue. Like we said we would. So while we're discussing payment, how about you, I, and my Druid friend here discuss fresh water? Surely you can find some use for it."

[Tawa]

The mayor mostly ignores Sacha and darts in to inspect the corpse. He sits there for at least a minute, staring at it.

"Rikast! Come here!"

A grey-clad miner walks over and kneels to inspect the spider. He announces:

"This is not the beast. The beast... must have been nine times this size."

The mayor speaks to you all.

"This is Rikast. He is widely considered to be the most perceptive dwarf on the island, and for this reason, he was selected as a miner, to determine mineral veins and note potential cave-ins and the like. He was also one of the few of us who escaped the monster. His word on the beast is final."

[Nerjin]

"Don't ignore me again." Sacha growls before remembering what she is trying to do "Anyways, nine times this size? Maybe it would be best to simply collapse the mine and start a new one."
