[Tawa]

The dwarves look appalled by your statement.

"The mine is our life!"
"It's our only source of income!"
"It's the only way we get materials!"
"That's the only place we could build a mine!"
"'oo 'ired you, anyway?"

The mayor pushes forward.

"Miss, I'm not paying you, if anybody, for that thing's death. Tarem over there--" The mayor indicates a yellow-clad woodworker. "--just so happened to pass by as the spider came from the mines, and 'e says that your friend over there--" The mayor indicates Darwyn. "--killed that there thing with his mystic-fire-stuff. Our island is still in danger, 'n we'd be ruined if we had to destroy the mines."

"Are there more of 'em, or something, then?" Ness asks, holding her head slightly, having barely reacted to the spider's presence and subsequent absence.

[Nerjin]

Sacha almost replied in anger at the mayor and his lackeys. However it was then that she got an idea. With a smile she simply replied "Forgive me. I overstepped my boundries. I often have relapses into my former temperament before finding Nish. I will admit I know nothing of mining. That I said in ignorance. My apologies."

[Sirus]

Darwyn ignored Sacha's faux-pas and nodded, stroking his beard in thought.
"I wasn't sure that the spider was the beast you feared; I seem to recall the words "tentacles" and "lose the will to move" in your description. Very well everyone, shall we venture forth?"

[Nerjin]

"Absolutely."

[Tawa]

Most of the dwarves calm down and are rather glad to hear that you're going to continue helping them.

[Silthuri]

"Onward, then. This battle was terribly anticlimactic."

[Tawa]

The three of you begin your venture into the mines.

Darwyn narrowly avoids being crushed by a falling rock. He notes that it was a trap, judging by the mechanisms in the ceiling; it was likely set after the beast was found.

[Sirus]

Darwyn cursed in a language that none of the others had a hope of understanding, then returned outside. He approached the dwarven mayor and gave him a reproachful look.
"One of your traps nearly killed me. I don't suppose you have a map of where any more of them are located?"

[Tawa]

"Hmmm... I'll go ask a mechanic."

The mayor dashes off and comes back a little while later with a map that has the scribbled markings of traps.

"She doesn't remember exactly where they are, but this is a rough estimate."

+5 save against traps in the mine. During battle, if any, a box of nine squares (each with a 1 in nine chance of being trapped) will be marked with a ^.

[Sirus]

Well, it was better than nothing. Darywn pocketed the map, then gave the mayor a hard look.
"Is there anything else we should be worried about down there? Possible cave-ins, floodgates? I want to help your people, but I need to look out for my own at the same time. If your constructions try to kill us again without warning, I might be inclined to set sail and not return."

[Tawa]

"No, we're quite sure that you're safe against cave-ins and such. Thank you for your valorous help.

[Sirus]

Darwyn returned to the group and let them all look at the map.

[Flying Dice]

"What do the little things mean, then, my friend?" Beolas asks, poking gently at the map with a finger.

[Sirus]

"Traps." Darwyn's voice was grim. "The dwarves don't remember their exact locations, so stay out of these areas unless you know exactly where the triggers are. Or have no other choice."
