Upon seeing the monkey cast its spell, everyone leaps into action, outraged by the beast. Morazin launches a cone of flame that burns the spellcaster and its companion, followed soon after by Kalnaf (1d20+5=16, 1d6=3, Monkey B is hit and wounded) and Ashura's (1d20+4=23, 1d20+4=5 does not confirm crit, 1d10=8, Monkey B is hit and dies) bolts. The spellcaster is dead, unable to reply to Vray's entreaties. Maru dazes one monkey as it attempts to flee, only for Orgarr to spear it (1d20+7=16 3d6+8=20; Monkey F dead) once he gets onto the shore.
The last of your attackers flees into the trees, screaming profanity in it's unearthly ape-tongue. Maru tries to stop it with a tanglefoot, bag, but seems unable to do so - her paws are simply not dexterous enough to make the throw. As it escapes, Bethany detects no evil in the creature: it appears as any other wild beast.
While the combat raged, Eli and Steffan managed to extinguish the ship using river water and their cloaks. If the party wishes, they may collect the five fallen monkeys for examination. There is a standing bounty of 10 gold per pelt for these unnatural creatures, and the pouch clutched by their spellcasting leader may yet give some clue to their true nature. Else, they could split off here and try to track the beast into the wilds, if that their desire.
