Study with Master Vadhe. If this is not possible, study with some group (prioritise those studying Evocation spells over Enchantment spells).

Davven released a quick breath as he swung his practice sword at his target. Every morning when the rest of the monastery slept, the young noble would set out into the yard and setup a small effigy that he might practice his sword skills on. If one were to take a close look, they might comment on how it almost looked gnoll-like, but few were up up at this hour. As he got lost in the rhythm of his attacks Davven began to ponder how magic could bring him greater prowess on the field of battle.  Warming Glow could easily be used to get soldiers to fight with greater ferocity when a lesser man might turn tail in the face of unbeatable odds. And the promise of magic being able to heal wounds or even cheat death was even more intriguing to Davven. The more he thought about the future and of the power magic seemed to offer, the more he lashed out at the practice dummy. His attacks grew more and more ferocious as straw began flying from the poor Gnoll's seams.

Blinking, it took a moment for him to realize that the target was all but ruined, lying in a heap by his feet. He stood there, breathing heavily for a moment before realizing it was time to begin his true studies for the day. He cleaned up the remains of the dummy before heading back to the monastery to study with Master Vadhe. He would have to fix the target dummy another time

Continue to study with Master Vadhe

Turn 5: Fire and Fury

"Is anyone interested in pursing my endurance restoration spell? I expect it will prove useful before Growth does."

Quote
Refreshing Nap

Life/Evocation

Put a willing target into a magic rest that grants most of the effects of a full night's rest in twenty minutes. Fully restores stamina, and gives morale like a full night of sleep, but does nothing for aching muscles. Takes five minutes to cast, may be used on oneself or another.

Research Refreshing Nap if someone with Evocation helps. Otherwise continue leading the group research Growth, unless there's a higher vote for something else with life. If nobody wants to study with me, join Master Vadhe's group.
[3] You make a bit of progress on the spell itself, with Kelnoia and Shek'Zeer's help. (+1 Spell)

: "I will admit I do not know how to assist you with that spell, Wallance, but I would see your noted on Growth." A short beat. "Please."

Mooch off of Wallace.
[5] You mooch rather effectively, figuring out a lot about both the Growth spell and Life magic from watching and helping the other two work. (+2 Spell, +1 Life)

Continue Studying Growth if possible. Otherwise join any group studying Life magic, preferably under the Master.
[3] You make a bit of progress on the spell, same as Wallace. (+1 Spell)

Master Vadhe opts to teach a more direct spell than usual, perhaps having run out of subtler magics. He cautions you about the destructive potential of this sorcery.

Vadhe: [4] Perhaps accordingly, his focus seems to be more on the spell and evocation than Fire. (+1 Spell, +1 Evocation to Sark, Davven, and Zuth)

Study with Master Vadhe. If this is not possible, study with some group (prioritise those studying Evocation spells over Enchantment spells).
[6] You take surprisingly well to Fire Blast, the first offensive spell you've seen from Vadhe. (+2 Spell, +1 Fire, +1 Evocation)

In fact, you now understand Evocation enough to use it on your own.

[6] You make a curious discovery while researching Fire Blast with Master Vadhe. You could swear the spell works better the angrier you are. Imagining... well, no need to mention aloud what you were imagining, but having a target you really want to see burn seems to increase the spell's effect. (+2 Spell, +1 Evocation, +1 Fire)

Vadhe seems to notice this, and takes you aside.

"I see you have uncovered one of Fire Magic's dangers, little one. Take care, for as you have seen, this sphere has many destructive, emotional tendencies. It would not do for you to get caught up in them."

[4] You make decent progress, as well as receiving benefits from Master Vadhe's instruction. (+1 Spell, +1 Evocation)

In fact, you now understand Evocation far better than you did.

[Experimental random event generated]

Midway through your training and research, you hear about a group of shamblers that have arrived at Landsend. Apparently they were driven out of their homes in the forest by a fearsome combination of harpies and gnolls. They have nowhere else to go and do not feel safe anywhere in the forest anymore, and so are requesting asylum.

Unfortunately this has put Master Vadhe in a difficult situation. On the one hand, he would like nothing better than to provide for these poor refugees.

On the other, there aren't enough of them to noticeably increase Landsend's size, but there are enough of them to cause great discontent amongst the current, thoroughly human inhabitants of the city. If he does assist them, he essentially risks fracturing the city's current unity for no tangible material benefit.

He will have to think on this, but may be open to suggestions or attempts to solve the problem some other way.

Kelnoia hears of the arrival of the Shamblers, frowning a bit and thinking for some time on it... On the one hand, she can't imagine simply turning them away... On the other hand, they can't just take them in, either, it could turn into a disaster...

Then, she has an idea.

"Master? Are there any stands of trees that could serve as a home for them near the city, but not inside of it? If it's not quite big or healthy enough, we could even get some practice with our Life magic and Growth spells by helping to nurture and heal it, so it's a win-win situation, right?"

Shek'Zeer overhears this conversation and gives her opinion.

: "In my homeland we would merely kill the invaders. What buisness do these harpies and gnolls have in driving out the plantfolk?"

"On another note," She continues, "I feel I am almost at a breakthrough in Life and both of the Methods. I offer my services to anyone who is working in any of these areas."

"Hmm... could we create a variant of the Growth spell that would harden the area for them so it's like the city wall, warding off attacks and stuff? That way they'd be safe, and far enough away the people won't be upset."

(Sorry for not answering yesterday, this game surely is progressing fast. During weekends I I might not be able to keep up with this fast tempo, and during the summer I will probably travel quite a lot, which will slow my response rate ever further. So if you want to kick me out I fully understand.)

Zuth was contempt with his progress. Al tough he still needed to much more knowledge to further his cause. He approached his master.
"Master Vadhe. I humbly ask you aid me in my quest to studythe secrets of life magic. While I have a basic understanding of both the art of Enchanting and Evocation. I need help if I in the future hope to be able to study on my own."

"Regarding the shamblers I have a possible solution. Since it would be very dishonourable of us to deny refugees we need to help them. Both me and Wallace have some experience in diplomacy. We could try to struck a deal between the leader of the Shambler and some of the larger farmers around the city. I have heard rumours that Shamblers are great at tending gardens, so farming shouldn't be very difficult for them to handle. In return the farmers are obliged to provide shelter and food for their new workers. I am not sure if the plan have any chance to succeed, but if the original population get a chance to make a profit from our new guest I assume they would be way more acceptive towards them"

(Very Dwafy thinking indeed :P)
Zuth sent a servant to search the city for the most proficient smithy's and stonemasons and return to him with details regarding their numbers and quality, looking for one he might hire for the upcoming weeks....

Try to study any sphere of life, preferably with the teacher. Offer to stuck a deal between farmers and Shamblers. Search for details regarding smithy's

Davven fumed as he heard about the plight of the Shamblers. They were strange creatures to be sure, but no one deserved to be driven away from their home. He had lost his own home to a band of Gnolls, and he would not stand by and let it be done again if possible.

"Master, whatever you decide about the fate of the Shamblers we should be prepared for these raiders. Men like these are seldom satisfied with the lot they have and if they see a jewel like Landsend undefended as it is, I have no doubt they will try to take it. I suggest we begin preparations for a town militia to help combat any banditry that may occur. I would be more than happy to volunteer my knowledge. Perhaps some of these Shamblers could be useful in providing details on the bandits composition."

Offer to help setup a town watch for Landsend

"We should give them refuge. If not for moral reasons, then because it is better to have more citizens who dislike each other than a small insular community. Should we need to spend time learning spells of contentment, so be it. On that line, Master, are there any spells we could learn, as we are now, that would keep the general populace happy?"
