Davven sat through Wallace's ceremony as politely as possible. Showing his distaste for Gnolls would do no one any good, though he did note that it was another Gnoll who seemed to be progressing the fastest. Perhaps his Master was granting Wallace favour because they hailed from the same race, not that Davven could ever prove it. The ceremony itself seemed a quiet affair. Growing up the son of a knight, he was used to celebrations being much more lively and festive. Even though his family would have been considered poor by most noble standards, they always found a way to fill their gatherings with a feast of food and drink and a bard would always attend and sing songs of brave warriors and fair maidens.

His studies progressed, but it seemed at a much slower pace than the others. Perhaps seeking more opportunities to improve his base knowledge would help him be able to start independent research.

"Master. I have always considered myself a diligent student, but I fear my progress has not been as quick as some of the other students. I am eager to be able to research independently - Might you have any tips, or texts that I might be able to study on my off-hours that would improve my basic understanding of either of the spheres we have studied already?"

(Sorry for nu fluff today, but a busy evening, might post some fluff in a few hours.)

Try to study life magic in any way possible, hopefully by the aid of the master.

"These robes mark you as a true apprentice, Wallace Nathanael Wilson. Though I would caution you against hubris, you should nonetheless feel pride at your accomplishments, and go forth to aid others as best you feel able. The symbol represents the sphere of Life as I have perceived it, as well as... certain spiritual overtones.

Finally, I would grant you a boon for this momentous occasion. Ask what you will, and I will endeavor to provide it."

"Thank you, Master Vadhe, it is an honor. I would wait, and ask for training in a purer source, if such a thing exists, at another time, when more of my colleagues understand a source of their own."

"Master? I was wondering if I could speak to you for a moment... Do you think that you might be able to teach me something like... something to help make life flourish in areas that it's weak? To help crops grow and such?"
"I believe I could. I would prefer, however, if you would discover such wonders on your own, at least for the most part. I do not yet feel comfortable leaving Sark on his own, and I should hope that by the time I do, you will be ready to work amongst yourselves, if not entirely on your own."

"I would be happy to help. Agriculture is the basis of civilization, and having abundant food can only be beneficial. It will be interesting to see what comes of it."

Study Growth with Life/Enchanting, to improve farmers' crop yields with healthy, fast growing plants.

Turn 4: No Way Around

Of course, Kelnoia wants to learn more, now. Her curiosity had been inflamed by the new knowledge she'd gained... and she was driven to continue practicing, wanting to catch up to the one who was in front of her... she knew what she'd practice next.

She approaches the Master again, intending to ask him about a particular spell she'd been thinking of for a while.

"Master? I was wondering if I could speak to you for a moment... Do you think that you might be able to teach me something like... something to help make life flourish in areas that it's weak? To help crops grow and such?"

He might recognize the reason for this... Kelnoia's home had been stricken by a famine some time before she'd come here, which had been the reason for her being displaced in the first place, though it hadn't dampened her happy-go-lucky attitude much. Honestly, it was anyone's guess why it didn't.

Study Growth, a spell to aid in the growth and prosperity of plants and other such things.

[6] Growth turns out to be right up your alley. The current version is good for little more than making a large planter vibrant, but the concept could certainly be used to improve crop yields if it was more powerful... (+2 Spell, +1 Enchantment, +1 Life)

Hey IronyOwl, I think I should have 4/5 Enchantment (since I had 2/5 Enchantment last turn). Anyhow, time for more IC information gathering.

Sark decided to approach Vadhe a day or two after the celebration to expand his knowledge about the types of magic that they had not encountered yet.
"Master Vadhe, I am curious as to what other Spheres of magic you know of."
Once again, study with Vadhe or try to practice a Fire spell if this is not possible.
[4] You make good progress on Warming Glow and Enchantment under Master Vadhe's guidance. (+1 Spell, +1 Enchantment)

In fact, you think you understand enchanting well enough to do it on your own.

JUst when you think I had the hang of things. Sleep deprivation, GO!

Same question but with evocation
"I am afraid Sark is still mastering Enchantment. He requires my aid further, however, so you may have such an opportunity in the future.

However, ideally you should work with your fellow students."

[4] Then you get some work done on Warming Glow and Enchantment, since that's what Vadhe is teaching and you don't have anything better to do. (+1 Spell, +1 Enchantment)

((Whoops, knew there was something up, but I counted six actions... bad Derm.))

Master Vadhe closes his eyes in quiet contemplation for a few moments before answering.

"In addition to your current studies, no, I think not...

...if you truly believe that your studies alone are insufficient, there are other ways, but... I am hesitant to suggest them. They are far more involved and far more dangerous than what you have done so far."

[4] Still, you study with Vadhe, making progress in Warming Glow and, well, more Enchantment. (+1 Spell, +1 Enchantment)

You now feel that you are proficient with Enchantment. If only these blasted Spheres didn't keep evading you...

(Sorry for nu fluff today, but a busy evening, might post some fluff in a few hours.)

Try to study life magic in any way possible, hopefully by the aid of the master.
The mermaid and the gnoll are studying a Life spell together, so you get in on that.

[5] And in fact, outpace the gnoll. The mermaid is still better than you, however. (+2 Spell, +1 Life)

Study Growth with Life/Enchanting, to improve farmers' crop yields with healthy, fast growing plants.
[2] You manage to get some more Enchantment experience, but fail to progress in either the spell or Life magic. (+1 Enchantment)

Vadhe: [5] Vadhe is a very good teacher of Warming Glow. (+2 Spell, +1 Fire for Sark, Savven, Shek'Zeer)

How do I work together and what do I need before I can do it?

((We can research in groups just fine. Each group needs one person with the source, and one person with the method. Inexperienced people can join in, and get the same xp, so long as they're not trying to research a spell too far above themselves. Currently, each group needs myself or Vadhe, for a source.))

So I basically have to wait until someone else forms a group and sidle on in before actually making an action?

I believe I am missing something.

How do I work together and what do I need before I can do it?
((See the diagram. Basically you don't have a Sphere or Method at a full level 1 yet, so you can't do anything on your own. This necessitates leeching off others until you can, yes.

Once you do get a Sphere or Method at level 1, in theory you have the component to work together with someone else on something they couldn't alone. In practice, it's a lot easier to master a Method than a Sphere, so you're still pretty much stuck mooching off Wallace or Vadhe.

In retrospect I probably should have had him train you directly in Life or something. This is a wonky phase.))

"Is anyone interested in pursing my endurance restoration spell? I expect it will prove useful before Growth does."

Refreshing Nap

Life/Evocation

Put a willing target into a magic rest that grants most of the effects of a full night's rest in twenty minutes. Fully restores stamina, and gives morale like a full night of sleep, but does nothing for aching muscles. Takes five minutes to cast, may be used on oneself or another.

Research Refreshing Nap if someone with Evocation helps. Otherwise continue leading the group research Growth, unless there's a higher vote for something else with life. If nobody wants to study with me, join Master Vadhe's group.

Mooch off of Wallace.
