The next entry is undated, but appears to take place shortly after the last one

Well, I've finally worked my way through all of those damn migrants. Most of them have completely useless skills; none of them know how to fight. But most of them are eager to work for the good of the fortress, so I'm not one to complain. Only two of them really stood out: A peasant who told me to call him Sloth, and a self-proclaimed scientist named Duthnur.

Sloth is a complete and total bastard, but he isn't Evil, as far as I can tell. More lazy. He doesn't care about tradition or loyalty or the right thing to do; all he cares about is himself. Well, that's fine; to each his own. But he'd better do his job, or he just might find himself on the wrong end of our Justice system.

Duthnur is an interesting one. He's a smart dwarf, and eager to both help and learn. But he isn't particularly skilled yet. Still, no one else is either, so I've put him in charge of our medical system. We'll have to build a hospital, and also bring water into the fort, but for now he can see dwarves and help them with their problems. Not only that, but he's also interested in pretty much every industry. I gave him a free pass to explore all of these fields. Hopefully he'll prove that I made the right decision.

With nearly half a hundred dwarves in the fort, I've decided its time to make my law official. I've ordered an office dug out for me and declared myself both Sheriff and Hammerer. I have no taste for executions, though; the next Paladin to arrive will get that job, I suppose.

Well, time to go. I need to go plan out the jail. And the hospital. And my office.... Damnation, the work never ends!

From the Journal of Kadol Ezumadek, Dwarven Paladin
26th of Felsite, 223

An office has been carved out for me and the dwarven woman who volunteered to be our new bookkeeper, manager, and broker, taking care of mundane business for me. I placed the coffer that I apparently crafted in my office, making it fit for a king.

The elves know where we are. I don't know how; they claim that they found out about us through the whispers of the trees, but that's a load of crap and they know we know it. I'm highly suspicious of them, but we traded with them anyways. We bought a giant hamster, giant praying mantis, and a tame wild boar. Hopefully we can set up a bigger meat industry.

The dining hall is all mined out, along with a food storage area right next to it. It still needs to be smoothed and engraved, but so far the dining room is already pleasing to the other dwarves.

As I was once possessed, so was one of the masons. He was inspired to create Olontathtat Duthnur Oram (Gearplunge the Guard of the Worlds in the Old Language), a granite hatchcover. On it is an image of the founding of our fort. Very interesting, and very scary.

(NOTE: Does anyone want to be dwarfed as a female speardwarf paladin?)

It should cover the staircase to the safe area for common peasants, make that staircase under main meeting hall (and the last stand battlefield for Paladins, of course).

If she's faithful worshipper of somedeity - then ok. She goes to sheriff then.

Well, based on the name Guard of the Worlds, I'm getting a certain FUN idea... But we shall see where the plot leads us!

To Be Dwarfed:
Peregar - Hammerer
Fath - Paladin/Swordsdwarf, Weaponsmith
Gavakis - Paladin/Axedwarf

I just got some new migrants. First warrior in a number of waves, but she's a female and a speardwarf. Nothing anyone asked for. But I think there's someone who can take the job of Hammerer, so Peregar might show up soon!

He's a Woodcutter, who worships two deities. Both are deities of the Granite Arena. One is associated with wealth, but the other is associated with death, war, and fortresses and is usually depicted as a rotting dwarf. Since he is a deity of the Granite Arena, I'm assuming that doesn't make him Evil. Instead, he is the Keeper of the Dwarven Dead, Punisher of the Dishonored and Rewarder of the Worthy. A great (and badass) god for a hammerer to worship!

There are about ten historical figures worshiping him, including a single Necromancer. I'm assuming that this Necromancer tapped into this god's divine power to steal from him.

Just amazing. Train him in blacksmithing, so he will make golden statues of both deities and masterwork steel sarcophagi for fallen Paladins.

*Just a thought to the air - why woodcutter skill doesn't count in fighting elves with axe?!*

Blacksmithing works. Heads aren't the only thing he knows how to smash with a hammer!

From the Journal of Kadol Ezumadek, Dwarven Paladin
1st of Limestone, 223

Autumn has come to our lands once again. Things are going well here in the fort, which I suppose just shows that we've managed to escape detection by any of our enemies thus far. Now that the elves know we are here, I do not know how long this state will last. That is why I've ordered production of weapons and armor to begin. By the end of this year, I plan to begin construction of the above ground part of the fort. Then I will begin training for battle, along with the two other Paladins present, and the promising miner Rendell who I shall teach our ways. Perhaps some of the civilians can be conscripted to form a marksdwarf squad; we shall see. And civilians will definitely be able to man the ballistas and catapults that will grace our walls in the near future.

Meanwhile, I have ordered trenches to be dug and walls to be built at various locations out in the wilderness, and cage traps to be set up there. I hope to capture some of the local wildlife, both for food and to train for defense.

From the Journal of Kadol Ezumadek, Dwarven Paladin
19th of Limestone, 223

The malevolent presence that possessed both me and the mason has returned. This time, he has taken a blacksmith. I am getting worried; such vile fiends taking over our dwarves is dangerous. I shall write to the Mountainhomes and ask them to send a cleric; we must hallow this place to remove the presence. Although Zefon Shaligshem the Armorer was buried according to the Dwarven traditions, I suspect that she is still displeased, and haunting us from beyond the grave. I will check the records of my Order for such events that have happened in the past. Perhaps we can stop this creature.

In other news, we have begun construction of a cistern from which we can draw water. Since we settled fairly far from the stream, this is quite a project. It will take a while. Luckily, it doesn't require too many miners, so the others can keep tapping veins.

I have spent some more time talking with Duthnur. Now that I've gotten to know him, he seems like a very nice dwarf. He does worship a deity of the Granite Arena's pantheon; I shall offer him a place in our Order, as a Holy Medic.

Finally, the blacksmith completed his work. A lead door encrusted with yellow zircon and menacing with spikes of lead. Not bad, I suppose. Perhaps we'll place it in my office.

BP, this is a community fort, not a succession fort. Sorry. But I can Dwarf you. Is a female OK? I could make you the in-game overseer.
