I only have 4 free dwarves left, but a great deal of jobs (particularly military) available. Should I increase my pop cap to allow for more dwarves?

No - I'm not really that interested in claiming a dwarf anyways. If anyone wants one, take one of the 4 left.

no - look at how much work your doing! relax already!

yes - 5 or 10 more migrants are useful to the fort. Even if they're unclaimed, we'll need their labor.

yes - 20-30 more migrants are required - I want to be a king among peasants.

yes - I want nobles! lots of peasants! Give me arbitrarily huge peasant counts so that my guy doesn't need to do anything!

Hello,hello!Are there any free dwarves?
Im interested in seeing how I will die help the fort grow prosperous.
You can call the one Zoll and make him a butcher,a animal trainer/a trapper,a chef,a brewer or anything FOOD related. If you can find somebody more lonely that would be great!Preferably a female?
EVERYONE WILL LOVE MY DISHES,EVERYONE.
Edit:Is Zas Ushatsherik still alive/well?If so,make her a cook.

Oh dear, running low on supplies is never good.  :-\

I agree with him on his point about clothes lasting longer if taken care of properly, but this is Dwarf Fortress; nothing makes sense dwarf logic is different from the logic of the real world.

Hey! I keep playing a season and then getting too tired or busy at the end to post my next reply. Uthric, note I did figure out the brew mead btw in the last post :). It just... took me a while before I realized it. Now the problem is a lack of jugs (they keep on using them for royal jelly), but I may have found a solution for the next update. We'll see.

and TheZoomZoll, there are TONS of free dwarves. You want Zas Basementperplexed? naming her Zol? You got her. She is now our head cook. She is also married to a sworddwarf Ilral Lirlokum, and has one 2 sons (the youngest is at the fort). Congrats!

Now, for the update. (Zol will bein the next one)

* GalenEvil claims a random dorf!!
To be hopefully renicknamed as my chosen moniker "Galen" ^_^ This looks interesting, so thus also a PTW!

Job(s): Miner Dorf called into military service to use his pickaxe for precision surgery upon the Green Menace.

Digging's a lot like surgery, see -- you grab the sharp thing and then drive the sharp end of the sharp thing in as hard as you can and then stuff goes flying and then stuff falls out and then there's a big hole and you're done. I kinda wish there was more screaming, but rocks don't hurt so I guess it can't be helped.

Just dump the jelly over the wall as bait or something around some cage traps.

Or atom smash it or lava pit it or load it inside a shotgun type minecart cannon.

So Ralgreth, has no stone to work with, hits up the glass-man, and wax gets made! Hurrah!

On another note, Yikes!! He nearly met an unfortunate fate!  :o (I guess the RNG didn't put earrings in while he was making crafts).

Ooh.  Can I have a dwarf named "Doktor" with medical skills and mechanics enabled?  He (or she) needs an antisocial personality and wants a bedroom protected by a trap-filled maze.

Personal design philosophy of fortress security: "It's okay if they get in, they'll never get out alive."  As such, he/she'd like to place traps in unlikely and questionable locations whenever he/she can get away with it.

Speaking of medical skills,is Zol's son old enough to be chief medical dwarf? We need one of those.
He should have:Diagnostician -- Surgeon -- Suturer -- Wound dresser -- Bone doctor -- Feed patients/prisoners -- Recovering wounded as a noble chief medical dwarf. Also he should be called "Loki" when he comes of age.
PS:Sorry Skid if you wanted your guy chief medical dwarf, you only said you wanted a dwarf medic and mechanic.

Darn you people and your hunting challenges.  It's not easy filtering personality traits out in DF you know, and I can't exactly create them. Partly because you have a more specific request, partly because I'm busy, partly because I'm lazy, and partly because I'm currently a little cranky, I'll just refresh the personality profiles of the dwarves that are available and re-post it to Imgur. Pick your dwarf from them :). I'll put in the jobs and lifestyles (and mostly whatever else you want) you request, but remember you're claiming a dwarf and making them relevant, not building them from scratch

On the bright side, I just learned a bit about renaming files in bash! that was fun. Updated available dwarves http://imgur.com/a/j8aiL#0

And TheZoomZoll, your kid is apparently  2 years old: http://i.imgur.com/oC9QP.png so it will be a while. He's named Loki now anyways though!
