Or nuke his troops from orbit and then invade.

Pfft, way to take the easy way out.

We fight by hand.  That way we can harvest all the delicious goodies.

What I always do is dump a lot of research points into jump tech.  Since the game only generates new FUN by player exploration, it should make the game harder to expand as quick as possible.

So I'd suggest you have the tech for a working jump engine, and tech for constructing jumpgates (so your civilians can exploit your expansion).

I'd suggest leaving Invaders off. Most of my long-running campaigns die because of the constant 1-day turns generated by their sensor/intercept checks during nigh-infinite chases. When they're in virtually every system, you're already done. Constant runs of double or triple digit autoturns do not a good game make.

Well, apparently there's been changes in 6.0 turn dynamics.  Anyone aware of those?

Ah, I don't recall reading up on any. The only fixes I'm aware of that are at all related to turns are the fix ("fix", maybe) of the surrender bug and a fix that I didn't read any specifics on to autoturns.

Yeah, invaders don't make for good aggressive play. Usually you get forced to sit on a jump point/wormhole for ages since you can't beat them in open space without godlike tech (even on a jump point its chancy). That is, of course, nevermind the oodles of sensor checks and 5sec turns.

Hmm, yeah.  Swarm will provide enough fodder to shoot at anyways, especially if they get fed.

Yep. Swarm are great in that you can keep feeding them obsolete vessels. Even better is if they're in contact with both you and a powerful (but not too powerful) NPR.

Your tension has been EXTEERMINATED.

Anyway, blowing up things doesn't seem like a fun idea all the time. How about going for a Von Neuman probe set up. Colonize one system, terraform as much planets as possible. Then move onwards to the next,... No permanent colonies, or only small token colonies.

Conquering the universe is quite the achievement in Aurora, really.  Exploiting every rock is difficult and time-consuming, but at the same time it generates a TON of resources.  Ship all those to a central point and do some mega-shipbuilding!
