Please explain how to do the jpegs, I'm unfamiliar with this.

Right now I've got most labs on laser tech, going for larger size lasers and laser size reduction - as much as missiles can perform massive alpha-strikes with box launchers, lasers can be just as powerful with reduced size.  Another researcher is taking 10/25 labs on asteroid mining and fuel harvesters, while industry is working on labs and automines.

I haven't called any time yet, not familiar with tight and crowded games so I'm debating my moves.

Build colony ships and freighters and colonize mars.

Please explain how to do the jpegs, I'm unfamiliar with this.

So when you try to open up the system view it gives you a message like "a11.jpg is missing" and another one that says "b20.jpg is missing", right? This is a bug in version 6.0, because Steve didn't include those files with the patch. All you have to do is put two image files called a11.jg and b20.jpg in the folder named "Planetjpg" that's located in your Aurora folder that's probably in Program Files.

What I did to fix it was: right-click on a10.jpg, select copy, right-click in the folder, select paste, change the name of the "a10-copy.jpg" to "a11.jpg", then do something similar for the missing b20.

Well, you don't so much build colony ships in Aurora.  You just declare it as a colony, and it becomes a barren rock with a sign on it.  The civilians then migrate and work depending on how available the shelter and such are.

So in that case, I'd want to build some Infrastructure and start shipping people.  I could also SM-in some "ancient alien ruins" on Mars.  For fun or profit.  It can uncover some fun items or pieces of research, as well as ancient robotic protectors that will rip up my colony.

@Karlito - will do!

EDIT: System view works, huzzah!  Now, I have some starting research I didn't spend, default 120,000 points.  What to invest in?  Jump point, industry speed, engines, etc?

Yep, do some Mars ruins. Let's see if the colony surrender bug is fixed this time.

There are colony ships. Use cryostasis modules.

I never build those myself.  Civilian lines will build plenty of them just fine.  Saves me the fuel and management!

You need to dump colonists on a world before civilians build anything. You need to do some of the work yourself first. :P

No you don't. A bit of infrastructure is enough. You can even contract the civies to move that infrastructure (You'll have to produce it yourself or take it from another colony) and then they'll build up that colony entirely on their own, bringing you much profit in the meanwhile.

Oh man, seriously? Welp, I have no reason to build colony ships anymore.

I still turn some out early on, before the civ lines are up and running. They were also useful to build yourself before the patch, when the civvies would have fleets of horribly outdated ships.

Also still useful if you want to crash-develop a world.
