Pleased with her success, Tikan slightly superstitiously kicked the severed head away, not wanting it to gnaw her toes as she helped take on the last zombie. She aimed her knife at the neck again.

Cut up the zombie.

((I'm going to go ahead and assume it is either on your person or within easy reach of you, because I'm nice.))
((It's near the altar. The demon disarmed her and placed it nearby when if she was going to be turned to be her weapon. Because it makes more sense.  :P

So I edited my action and turn.))

Zealots and Demons, Turn 25:  The Book, Pistol and Altar

((I no understand how sixes work here. D:))

"..."

Mordekhai's eyes were aflame but he still registered in the back of his mind the appearance of a fox girl making quite the scene as she entered the Cathedral wielding her tail like a weapon.

Tear the zombie guard limb from limb.

[4] [2+1 damage] You manage to some damage to the zombie with your flail, but hardly enough to rend it limb from limb.

Aegnor turned to look at the noise, and then swung at the remaining zombie, Talk would have to come later.

DEATH STICK POWERS GO GO GO

[1]. You command your Death Stick to attack, but then you realize you have the Death STAFF model.  An easy mistake to make, could have happened to anyone.

Redirection

Nepthym used the momentum of her missed blow, redirecting it...

Action: Backstab the Zombie again!

[5] ([5]+[4]+2x2=22 damage). You stab the zombie in the back, killing it as you dagger strikes and disrupts the locus of power animating the creature.

((Oh goodness, I can see where this is headed. XD I'm not holding a staff, currently, aye?))

Akari was surprised to see four others along with the corpses of what were once her captors. Fear and anxiety was apparent as she shouted out her thoughts, with the intent of finding her staff left behind -- the fact that there was still a battle did not occur to her. At least she was holding into something warm and soft.

She glanced down to see what she was holding, it was very familiar, almost as if-

Wait, that's my tail...hmm.

Seeing the possibilities of impressing those who saved her, she decided to not fight and scavenge something of worth from the dead. If not possible, then she returns to the altar, gets her staff that was misplaced before the demon arrived, inspecting the altar for any signs or signifying marks.

(If acting before anyone): Basically attack the zombie!

I'd expect a *flumph* if I use this...probably never did it before but...

[5] You calmly walk up to the altar and gather your staff.  You find a pistol and some kind of spellbook nearby so you pick up those as well.  With a quick check you acsertain that the pistol has five shots loaded.  You briefly think about checking the pirates corpse for more, but toss the idea aside.  [5] The altar is dedicated primarily to Belessunu, a goddess of Good Fortune and Battle.  The altar was meant for use in worshipping the whole Pantheon, now though... it has been corrupted  temporarily by the demon.  It looks like it is dedicated to some demon lord named Jessau.  You think you could probably disenchant the corruption and purify the altar back to its original purpose with some effort.

Pleased with her success, Tikan slightly superstitiously kicked the severed head away, not wanting it to gnaw her toes as she helped take on the last zombie. She aimed her knife at the neck again.

Cut up the zombie.

[auto-fail] You look around and breathe a sigh of relief, it is over... for now.  Perhaps you should rest before continuing on.

Enemies

Zombie Guard:  Dead.

Energy

Nepthym took a deep breath, flicking zombie slime off her dagger. She had not been so much as scratched during the fight-a combination of luck and skills, as always-but it had taken a toll on her stamina.

She walked over to where the strange Kitsune woman was studying the altar intently.

"Are you alright?" She asked carefully. "Yeah, and just call me Jacelyna."

...

After their conversation, she went over and knelt by the mage, closing his staring eyes with her free hand. An odd way to respect the dead, she thought, rifling through his pockets.

Action: Loot the Pirate Mage!

Silently, Mordekhai moved towards Shruick's unmoving husk. Without making a sound, the crusader took off his helmet, revealing a young man with copper hair and blue eyes. His face seemed a mix of stern discipline and compassion as he moved nearer to the fallen warrior's body and respectfully put both his steel saber and toolbox aside.

His hands steadied the corpse, one of the many he had seen fall since he had taken his quest. One of the few that was of an ally. He carefully kissed the draconian's forehead and closed his eyes, and after half a minute of thinking, got to a decision. Mordekhai started a low and soft chant of deliverance that was almost universal to both men and the ones who had part of the human culture embedded upon them.

After some minutes, he stopped his chant and stared to the ceiling, as if trying to pierce it and stare directly into the skies befpre turning his head back to the team.

"He was a good warrior and person, who performed beyond the call of duty and fought even as he distracted  the enemies from the prisoner and the group. His memory shall be honored and his body shall receive the proper rites as soon as we find ground."

That said, he slowly laid Shruick's body back on the ground and started to move around in search for certain objects.

Take a resilient thurible/incensary from the Cathedral, as well as material to start a fire and some more religious material (store them in Mordekhai's handy pouches and bags). Wrap Shruick's corpse in various bedsheets or similar materials.

"Hey steve." You speak into the air.
>Yes?
"Could you guys also make a hamburger out of this arm when they cut it off? I wanted to eat it just for the sake of tasting it."
>That is horrible and disgusting. It will no doubt set you apart and create fear in your team mates. So of course.

Her staff! It was still intact with all it's workings and symbols! Her favorite 'stress' ball was also present, strung close to the handle in all it's white fluffyness. The Kitsune was glad that the priest and the demon didn't tamper with it.

Still, looking at the altar once more, she couldn't believe how close death came to her. Being held as a sacrifice tends to have a traumatizing effect, if it weren't for these people, her heroes...She was glad her thoughts were concentrated elsewhere.

*Step*

*Step*

"Are you alright?" She asked carefully. "Yeah, and just call me Jacelyna."

Akari wiped off the last of the tears that fell from her eyes as she addressed the speaker. "Never better to see you, Jacelyna! I'm Akari Talria, or just 'Ari', the...erm, last surviving crewmember of this section of this ship, I think." The Kitsune was still shaken by the experience, but gladdened to see how friendly her rescuers were. They actually spoke directly to her!

She lifted the gun, remembering it on the elven priest's person as she examined it from all sides. "Five shots in this thing. You take it, I don't want to deal with this. Not after...what just happened."

She noticed the armored man carry a dragonoid body. "He was your friend, was he not? Can I...join you for the moment? You aren't more pirates, right? Or...what do you want from me?"

Fear returned as Ari fell back to a cautious stance. Who were these people, anyway?

Examine that book I just received. And then purge the altar of it's taint!

Tikan didn’t have the energy to pay that much attention to the newcomer yet. The seconds of being held up and throttled by the demon had seemed like hours, and a large part of her wanted nothing more than to sleep.

She slumped down against a wall and caught her breath for a second. Then she tried to see if she could attend to her injuries, asking the Elf for help when it became clear she probably could not.

Attend to wounds. Ask for assistance.

"Friend? I barely knew him. He was a good man, though. He'll be honored." Nepthym said, examining the gun with an experienced hand. She noticed it was a McRoltson Air Service Revolver, 5 shots, low stopping power, good sights-pretty common for airship use. It seemed to be in good condition-not fired very often. It would have to do. She had already stolen a holster and belt from the dead pirate mage, and now she slipped it into the holster, favoring her left hand.

"I'm not sure. We'll have to get to the bridge. As for you, you're free to help us, or move back to the brig-you'll be safe enough there until we get this solved." Nepthym replied absently, practicing her quick draw.

Ari beamed at the prospect of actually helping those who saved her skin, so that meant that they weren't pirates at all! Jacelyna seemed happy for the gun, so she was happy to see that.

"I'll come along with you all. Not much I can do, far from the engine rooms...Just let me clean this altar up first, I don't like how they made it."

To the common eye, the altar was still an altar -- untainted and made of...stone.

"You killed the demon right? Was his name Jessau?"

Nepthym visibly winced at the Demonic name 'Jessau' was being spoken aloud, like someone had yelled suddenly and loudly.

"...Three. I didn't catch it's name. I didn't really kill him. And I'm pretty sure that was not the one you're thinking-don't tell me how I know that. Just don't say that name out loud again, alright? Especially not here."

"Alright, sorry ma'am. Just making sure before I fix this altar...I don't like what they did to it."

Ari checked the usual areas of taint and remembered something.

"How did all these pirates get on the ship anyway?"

"No idea. They might have used grapple lines, or fast moving boarding craft. Or they could have been here all along, hiding among the crew and passengers-could have even of stowed away in the cargo bay, if they had accomplices." Nepthym said, conversationally. She wasn't really interested in the how, only what was useful to her.

((Forgot my vote, yes for initiative on boss fights!))

"Hey Jacelyna," Ari said as she traced a line on the altar, "if there's anything I can do to repay you and your friends for saving my life, just tell me, ok? I'm a Mage, a practitioner of the arcane arts so I think that may explain why the demon-thing was interested in me...I think, my memory is a bit fuzzy..."

The Kitsune was interested in this certain group, it was made of a small party -- a motley collection of people who seemed to have only banded together for a common goal based on Jacelyna's words. Still, this was preferably better to stay with them than to stay...alone in the brig. Somehow, she felt more at home in their presence.

"So I guess I'm going along with you all. An extra hand for the journey ahead, right?"

"You don't owe me anything. If you want to pay something back, do unto the pirates, if we run into more of them...

Journey ahead? If you say so. I don't really plan to stick around long, but who knows what will happen."

Nepthym had every intention of vanishing into the first crowd they found. It was dangerous getting close to people-and how long till they confronted her about her identity? No, she wouldn't stick around...unless there was a reason to.

Aegnor sighed, he had made the mistake of calling the DEATH STAFF a DEATH STICK. A common, but still newbie mistake. Once the battle had finished, he finally paid some attention to the voice earlier, who as it turned out belonged to a kitsune, now looting a book from the pirate mage. Along with Jacelyna looting the body, clearly unfazed by the grim nature of his neck, treating it as if it was just a minor detail.

He turned away from the sight of them just looting the bodies, and he attended to tikan, looking at where the demon gripped. "U think that you're fine, it just hurts for a bit. In the meantime, I should be tending to the church, as part of my duty. I'll ease the pain first."

In the midsce of healing tikan's throat, he heard the kitsune speak out a clearly demonic name, causing him to falter for a second, although he kept on with the healing, and afterwards he sighs slightly. "Lets not say anything evil, speak of the devil and all."
Heal Tikan's throat, and then start to remove the demonic taint upon this place/
