Aegnor sighed, he had made the mistake of calling the DEATH STAFF a DEATH STICK. A common, but still newbie mistake. Once the battle had finished, he finally paid some attention to the voice earlier, who as it turned out belonged to a kitsune, now looting a book from the pirate mage. Along with Jacelyna looting the body, clearly unfazed by the grim nature of his neck, treating it as if it was just a minor detail.

He turned away from the sight of them just looting the bodies, and he attended to tikan, looking at where the demon gripped.

Nepthym saw Aegnor eyeballing her while she looted the body. It was a look of...disgust, maybe. Of the body? Of her? Of the casual waste of life? Maybe she was seeing more than was there.

Did it even really matter?

"You see something you like?" She quipped to Aegnor, not pausing her efforts.

Aegnor gave a glance to Jacelyna, eyes slightly narrowed, eyebrows up.

She obviously saw the look, somewhat expected, but still.

"Oh, nothing. You're just clearly taking this in stride, miss." Aegnor causally threw back, putting just a slight amount of emphasis on the 'miss' part.

She turned to him and nodded, smiling slightly. A line of blood dripping down her forehead. What a joke. She was never anything close to a 'Miss', anyway.

"Well, I guess you could say I'm de-sensitized. Too much violence and hardship in my childhood, lost my concept of right and wrong, good or bad, up or down, east or west. I'm just a damaged person, you see. Broken and battered beyond any and all measures of rhyme or redemption." She said, looking at him closely.

Aegnor countered with a casual brushing off.  She was clearly lieing.

"Because you're just a damaged girl? I'd say that you're far from it, but if you insist if you are, who am I to go against judgement?"
Aegnor shrugged, and gave her a slightly sad look, before getting back to his work.

Nepthym was hurt and angered more by his pity (false or sincere) than anything he had said, though she tried not to let this show. She didn't want that-didn't need it. It was better if none of them got close to her-better this way. Soon she would be gone, and they wouldn't matter to her anymore-they'd go back to their more or less happy lives and ordered worlds, and she'd be back in the fray, the animal state of survival in which she felt most alive-nurturing her profound loss with silent stoicism, as she always would. She knew no other way to live.

Soon. Very soon, now.

"No need to lay down judging eyes upon her, Healer. The 'miss' says she has no salvation, but I like to think otherwise." Mordekhai intervened, appearing by Nepthym's side with a smile as he rummaged through the things in the room, looking for the needed equipment.

"You should not create a shell so thick. It'll only hurt you more the day it finally breaks." the crusader pointed out, patting her head without much of a care for her reaction.

Nepthym smiled up at him with false cheer.

"I must have had blood in my ear-I didn't quite hear you there, Mord. How do you know that my shells not already broken?"

Mordekhai shrugged.

"Because you lie, you deceive and you keep trying not to care." he answered with a warm smile. "I don't pity the warrior in you, because warriors don't need any. But I do feel compassion and sadness for what the girl behind the warrior has gone through."

His voice was truthful, inherently different from Nepthtym's practiced, masterful lies.

She mimicked his shrug, not showing any emotion (trying), but feeling it.

"Well, I guess you figured out everything, then. Almost everything. Lucky you. Are you going to try fix me, now? Or just use me? I've had enough quite enough of the former and I've killed men for trying the latter, thank you very much." She replied gruffly.

Nepthym found it hard to believe anyone was truly incorruptible-she was sure he was working an angle, maybe he convinced himself he was doing good-but in the end, it was for himself. And-here's the punchline-if he wasn't what she thought? Well, she couldn't trust him anyway.

Nepthym was a hunted woman. Once he found that out, once he found out the sizable bounty on her head-for Treason (for refusing a suicidal order and fighting with her unit ), Military Desertion (for running when they told her what they did to pretty little traitors), Grand Theft (of everything she could get her hands on), Murder (The slaver who had tried to collar her had been from a powerful family, and give or take a dozen bounty hunters and a lawman who had caught up),  etc-he would make a snap judgement. He would fall on the side of the law. Or walk away. Or die beside her, or in her place.

In none of these situations, did she live happily ever after-and neither did anyone going with her.

Maybe it was the ultimate cowardice, choosing to live alone, but she didn't see any other alternative. None at all.

Aegnor stopped, and turned to look at Mordekhai, a little bit of guilt on his face, mixed with surprise.

"I.. Did not mean it in that way. I merely wanted to state my thoughts on the matter."

After the head patting and shell thing, Aegnor shrugged.

"In any case, Jacelyna. You're too trained to just be a normal passenger. That, and the fact that you seem to be pretty good in a fight. Still, just be careful. I.. Don't want people dieing."

At that point, Aegnor nods at the dragonian corpse. With a large amount of guilt on his face.

"I.. Don't want you to die, or anyone here, actually. I feel personally responsible for not keeping them alive. I'm a healer, and I failed. I don't want to fail again. Even if it angers you, I'm not going to let you die, just out of duty."

"I also failed, Aegnor. If you are the hand that heals, I'm supposed to be the shield to protect." Mordekhai said with a heavy voice before turning back to Nephtym.

"You should try a hood. Those scars are really difficult to hide, and a dress will hardly hide your identity." he said, before pulling out a scroll with a "Wanted: Dead or Alive" add on it. "I may already have told you I already prowled the streets of cities during the night. And these ones" he said, before dropping it on the ground "Are in a good amount of places. I took this one from a bounty hunter who was after another person."

The scroll had Nephtym's face drawn on it, face and profile, as well as a description and the reward.

"Pretty 'Wild West', if you ask me."

Aegnor saw the sheet of paper, heard Mordekhai speak, and then he saw the wanted posters. His eyes widen slightly, but other than that he remains calm. "Well, its better than thinking you were a spy that would try to stab us in the back later. I did have my suspicions that you were a soldier, or scout. The way you handle this."

Aegnor waves his hand at the blood on her, as well as the dead bodies, and then sadly at the dragonian corpse. "I dont think any of us care on woh you are, just as long as you can help us defeat these pirates."

With that, Aegnor pulls a wanted poster towards him with his staff, intent on grabbing it.

Nepthym's eyes flicked down to the scroll. She thought-a bit humorously-they had drawn her far too fat. Didn't they know she was losing weight? Her manner of speaking changed subtly.

"Don't care who I am? Did you see that reward? Heh-Well, that's a mighty fine pot, there-I guess Mr.Aevonich is pulling out all the stops for me, I'm touched, really...

That nice bit of change for the deed, tide a man in drink and whore for a few months or so, you think? In fact..."

She stood up, counting the people in the room in an exaggerated fashion.

"There's enough for a nice four way split." She hocked on the ground. "Maybe a three way share, cause you I'm not one to be taken alive-if any of you know Mr. Aevonich's business practices, I'm sure you'll know why.

I could get two, I think-50%/50% is real nice. Then the last two figure amongst themselves if they want to share with the other one. Anybody wanna try and get rich?"
She laughed coldly, twirling her knife around.

"Ah, just shut up." Mordekhai answered with a soft smile, getting back to his search. "If I really wanted to kill you, I'd have done it while you swung your butt around trying to fit into that vent entrance."

"I don't think you're as bad as the poster says. If you are feeling threatened, you can try a preemptive strike, I don't care."

Aegnor rested his staff on his shoulder, just one hand resting on the grip. "And you think I'll let you kill anyone here, or allow anyone to kill you? No more death."
