I'm HF fan myself... though UBW was pretty epic, the darkness in HF was more interesting.

Truth be told, Fate is out of place for being so bad when compared to UBW and HF. Period.

 I disliked Fate because I thought Saber was a boring character, especially when compared to the others. Or maybe that's just my personal dislike of cold/inexpressive/stoic characters. I do not count "lack of personality" as a personality trait. : V

Well then. We're a bit miffed on mana, Haika. Why u no have bigger reserve of mana!?

I'm so screwed in long battles, since I need to use so much mana to stay materialised for a single turn.

He transfers mana at a high ratio. In case it's not clear how it works, the "transfers mana at a 1-5 ratio" means that for 1 of his mana, you get 5 mana. If he spent 400 mana, you would get 2000. Besides, you're not supposed to be at full mana most of the time, similarly how in FSN the protagonists usually fight weakened, but still win. Also, unlike Caellath, you have high stats even without using magic to boost your combat prowess, so you can just use basic attacks and still be decent. Furthermore, it is morning in-game and all the fighting happens during nighttime so you can spend the day either resting or scouting to prepare better.

The thing is, compared to him, I can't do anything. Best tactic for us currently is 'Use my Battle Continuation/Endurance to meatshield while Archer pwns everything with ridiculous amounts of Noble Phantasms, which he can use all of his mana on.' If they get out of my zone, I can pull them back (for what I'm assuming is a ridiculous price, because NP). If they get out of his zone, he just switches to one of his melee weapons. Against a Berserker, I'm screwed because I have nearly no defence. He isn't, because dat Longsword. Against a Saber, I'm screwed, because I have nearly no defence. He isn't, because dat Longsword.

Caster is the only matchup where I might be able to do even marginally better than him, from the sheer fact that I have Magic Resistance 4!

AND I have to conserve my mana for, actually BEING there. Freaking Independant Action.


By the way

Spend half of my time resting, the other half scouting around the area where we'll be based to get a better strategic picture.

Archer also needs to consume huge amounts of energy just to stay on the same level as the other servants, while you have much stats. Additionally, switching between weapons is the base of Archer's tactics and thus he is a "jack of all trades, master of none" type, each of his Noble Phantasms being low-grade. In addition, you always have 5 offense and 5 speed by default, AND you have abilities that let you raise offense to X (that being the "of charts" overpowered level), AND you have a NP that can defeat any defense and can draw your opponent towards you for free, making Caster useless and Assassin and Rider much weaker.
 
 Let's compare stats a bit.

 Max powered Lancer :

-Offense:5 (X for 200 mana per turn)
-Defense:3
-Speed:5
-Endurance:4
-Mana:2
-Spells:3
-Auto-heals for only 100 mana per turn, ignores wounds, mental effects for free, draws opponents to him for free, has magic resistance 4. Pays 50 per turn to keep fighting. 350 mana per turn to fight in full strength. With 3000 mana, can fight at full strength for 8 turns.

 Max powered Archer
-Offense:3
-Defense:4 (5 for 300 mp per turn)
-Speed:4 (5 when defense is buffed)
-Endurance:2
-Mana:5
-Spells:1
-Melee damage increase for 300 mana per turn, 400 mana per turn for bonus attacks from animated knives. No way to deal damage to strong defensive opponents except by a very impractical 2000 mana shot, (compared to Lancers 3 rounds of pain for 800 mana), 2 endurance means he is very squishy and NEEDS the flamberge to survive against melee servants. NEEDS sneak attacks to go 1vs1 against the stronger servants, if he doesn't dodge a nuke type attack, he's done for. Pays 1000 mana to stay at max strength. With 5000 mana, can last for 5 turns and immediately turn into spirit form). If he needs to nuke someone, he loses 2000 mana and can only stay full powered for 3 turns. Additionally, he stays squishy due to low endurance and no way to heal or protect against strong magic.

 Hell, he needs maybe 300-ish mana per turn to match you at 50 mana per turn.

I think I was mis-interperating something, then. Those oodles of noodles of NPs are a shit, though. Also, I assume X is equivalent to the 'EX' value of the VN? (In other words, either so incredibly high that it's unclassifiable by the others, or so incredibly low that it's unclassifiable by the others)

It's just to make the character more interesting and have a special playstyle. It's balanced, because his NPs are all weaker, but have different purposes, making him basically weaker but more adaptable. Besides, that's badass, you know it is. : P

It only means too high to be classified. I won't have servants with stats too low for classification. I plan to have everyone capable of kicking major ass.
 So, as you see, X offense + 5 speed + ability to negate any defense is far from being-

compared to him, I can't do anything

 Really, he's adaptable, but there's little that Archer can do against something with high defense. Besides, you know how FSN Berserker was described to be very hard to hit just because his attacks leave no openings? The same can apply to you.
 There's very little that RTD Archer can do against Berserker (too dangerous when in close range, very hard to kill), Saber (superior defense, very hard to damage) or Rider (closes in very fast, makes half of Archers NPs useless because of that).

The other thing I wanted to mention, in the VN system, the +'s on the end of a letter don't denote increased power by default. They denote increased power in certain situations. It indicates a specialised increase rather than general power.

Not only that. Saber could probably kill him once with a normal attack from her sword, but it was mentioned that she couldn't get close to him, because his offense is too strong and his range is too long to risk closing in. And God Hand is the thing that makes it so that you need to kill him multiple times with different attacks. I think his immunity comes from an ability and not the NP, if I remember correctly.

 And I still don't think you are underpowered. If anything, you are stronger because there aren't many things that Archer can do that well, while you're great at offense while still being less squishy. Archer is more of a support type with the sneaking and adaptability, while RTD Lancer is a pure combat type, with all his abilities making him more dangerous in battle.
