Question: About how long would most combats last, on average?
Depends on the Ships and such. Ideally one of your large ships has a 100 shield, with a 10 recharge, and does about 30 damage a turn.  Which means that after 5 turns the shield is down and within another 5 the ship should be damaged beyond fighting. That's my best guess.

I'll soon repost my character profile, the ship, missiles' information and hopefully, the fighters and support ship, which are drawing heavily on the GM's concept, because I am already kind of tired.
Well, it makes sense after all. They are probably Conglomerate build ships which have been refitted for your purposes. There are still some errors in them though. (For example the engines aren't right, and their might be a problem with the jumpdrive as well).

edit: The engines are overloaded, but the jumpdrive is fine, at last.

I'll get those right. The jumpdrives'll be following ones, and I may end up making a tad larger ship if my budget allows. Someone from my crew'll have to control it though.

Oh God, I should have gone with my Cruiser idea.

Sure. I just wanted to ask: the Frigate's smaller size'll help it in being less targetted (as in more difficult to lock on), right?

Yes. I don't know if I written the mechanics up yet, but it should be harder to hit.

Lalalala, shopping for crewmen...
By the way, Tiruin and Dwarmin are in. Oh wait, you are the ones choosing.

Another question: Would the mechanics skill the one used for using things like robots/mecha/something you command but doesn't drive?

Depends. Maybe even both. If you are operating a mecha to move yourself, others or it around, it would be driving. If you are using it to shoot things, heavy weapons and mechanics to do anything else. Note that I might use mechanics as a save in case of fails on other mecha rolls.

Ouch. So it would take three skills to properly drive a mecha. That hurts.

Fixing my backstory to implement the extra ship.

Hey, which one of you captains wants me? I don't really care, but it's crew choosing time apparently.

Most things will be a combination of skills. Note that not all mecha weaponry might be considered heavy weaponry. You could use it to punch people, which would be closecombat, for example.

A thought just occurred to me. In theory, couldn't you make a tiny jumpdrive shuttle or even remote-controlled drone that your larger, follower-equipped vessel can then use to mimic actual jumpdrive?

Although, with docking bay prices being what they are I imagine it'd have to be a pretty big ship for that to be worth it.

It can be done, however there might be some instabilities leading to the big ship jumping somewhere near the smaller one. (Distance depends on size difference).
