I love migrants. I don't abandon, i ride out my forts to the bitter end.

That means sometimes, one or two sober, ragged, rat-eating dwarves, surrounded by legions of their maddened and melancholy brethren get to open the gates to a lovely new batch of the fortresses future-

When you have set popcap to 80, have 130 inhabitants and another 20 have just arrived, you will feel a bit beligerent too.

I don't know what you're talking about, I love the little bastards. Always things to do, never enough stubby little hands to do it. Sure, for the first couple years everyone will be sleeping on the floor and drinking out of the local river, but if it means clearing all of the stone out of my stockpiles won't be a year long project, I'll make it work.

Babies:  Wait 2 years.  If they survive, they become dwarven children.
Children:  They become decent Growers over time.  They're allowed to pick crops once the crops are ripe, and that adds slightly to the Grower skill each time.

change the child cap to something more reasonable if you don't like the babies/children. Change the time it takes them to grow to adult too.

It would be neat if one could set up "castes" in-game. Perhaps certain administrative/noble jobs would promote or require a dwarf to be of a particular caste, the "standard" caste would allow most regular labors, and a "slave" caste would permit us overseers to assign workers to the "haul things and be naked and eat raw mushrooms instead of roasts," perhaps balling all of those negative thoughts into a single moderately bad "wishes he could move up in society" thought. I can't say I've put much thought into the idea, but since I already have a large "apprentice" labor group for extra dwarves, having a bit of extra control over what they do and how they behave might be nice. Plus, it could make nobles/administrators even more obnoxious than they already are.

In a fat-fingered moment while setting up another military squad I accidentally created a captain of the guard rather than a militia captain.  His squad of near-legendary hammerdwarves equipped with high quality silver hammers then took it upon themselves to dispense justice to all the mandate breakers in the fortress.  It was quite messy.

Massive inbound migration can cause major problems including (but not limited to) food/booze/clothing (long-term) shortages, mass-unhappiness due to a lack of beds (unless you're ready for the bearded Zerg rush)
It is amazing that you managed to have shortages of something.

I will stop hating migrants once I get a newer pc.
For now, I've capped my population to 10, got lucky and only got 10 migrants. With [CHILD:4], and child cap 10:40, my fort is now slowly growing at a rate of about 2.5 dwarves a year.

The inevitable population tripling third wave. (which I now avoid with a pop-cap of 7.)

There's only so much use for a dabbling herbalist in any given fort, let alone all thirty-seven of them. Don't even get me started on children...
I don't hate migrants, I hate useless migrants. Armorers, weaponsmiths, skilled masons: welcome. Fish dissectors, "administrators" (a.k.a. "I'm too posh to be a peasant!"), peasants: please drop dead already.

Draft them. Turn them into goblin dissectors, pain administrators and, well, peasants. Although you could probably set them to processing plants or shit untill they're no longer peasants before drafting them.
