Look around the forest for anything that looks somewhat valuable

Thoki snickered to himself, holding his eyebrows. "I don't suppose you know where the guard headquarters is do you?" He was at a dead end and he knew it. If this was just as much a dead end as talking to the guard he'd have to think of something else to do to wasting time while waiting for the others. Maybe he might sneak a peek into the temple. Surely they knew more than they were willing to say.

Wait to hear something disappointing before heading to the temple.

Salden & Aile

Salden: "Orders, of course, orders," says the man, looking nervous.

Aile: "Well, sure, I guess..." The man seems to be on the verge of saying something more, but he swallows it.

Aile gives Salden a snowberry bunch. Salden munches on it and feels 1 power restored.

Kaelan: The blacksmith grunts as if he expected you to turn it down. He drags out a wheeled rack of weapons. They all seem to be in mint condition, as if he polished them recently. There are various daggers, from all-purpose daggers, to meat daggers, to weapon daggers, to stileto daggers. Arrows are also there, mostly hunting arrows, but the bows are sold across the street at the general store, he says. Never been much of a woodcrafting man.

Crossbows aren't in demand around here, so he doesn't have them.

Mier

"...Sure. I don't feel like I like the national guard much now either."

Mier finds a small folded cloth in the pocket of a black-suited man and uses that to bandage the man's wound. He then carefully searches the caravan. The coffer(s) are the most immediate source of valuables; what is weird is that one of them is empty. One of the caravans have a small box of an expensive food called truffles, and also a large mushroom that is beige in color, called a golden pine mushroom, likewise expensive. Other than those, the rest are too heavy or bulky to easily take away. Mier does take care to drop his 30 iron bolts for the 30 steel bolts the guard carry.

(f2572 obtained)

Inser looks around the forest. Not being a herbologist, and the place being a foresty forest, there isn't anything of value.

Thoki asks.

"It would be six hundred thirty kilometers to the north-north-west."

Thoki then heads towards the temple.

((I'm assuming that was the cash from the coffers? In other news Mier just won the fantasyland looter's lotto here.  :P))

After carefully placing the coffers in his bag, Mier collects the box of truffles and the golden pine mushroom, wrapping them in his spare clothes to keep them safe. He exchanges his iron crossbow bolts for steel ones on the corpse of a guard before shaking his head at his silliness, taking the iron ones back as well.

This done, he returns to the injured man, "Do you think you can walk if you lean on me, or do you need me to carry you back?"

Mier acts based on the man's response, heading back towards the temple village.

It'll be extra weight, but I might need them, and I have the space.

Wasn't exactly looking for plants, but whatever.

---

Inser was displeased with all zero of his findings. If he was going to pass himself as a merchant looking to leave, he'd need something more to back the words than two stolen, broken daggers.
Look anywhere safe for things that a merchant would probably carry.

Thoki's jaw dropped when he heard exactly where the guard's headquarters was. It was definitely too far away to get to within a few days, but it was good to know exactly where they were. Well, he still had a lot of time before the others came back, and sneaking into the temple would just be too risky. Thoki started walking to the edge of town, hoping to hone his skills away from the prying eyes of the city. Somewhere with at least a few trees would be ideal both for the shadows that they cast and the visual cover.

He looked around to be sure that no one was able to see him before continuing. He focused on the shadows, shaping it into the form of a large black dog with a vast gaping mouth of fangs. If he was lucky he'd be able to keep the dog with him in his shadow along with the guide. If not he'd have to see what he could do.

Find somewhere quiet to experiment. Form a shadowy dog.

((I understand why, but... Mier's already a bit of a packrat, and he's anticipating a fight with the red-scales soon. Plenty of those bolts are going to find good homes.  :P))

Mier lets the man lean on him and heads to the northern village, which had the temple.

Inser ponders on what, exactly, a merchant would carry.
Uh.. maybe a ledger of sorts, a list of what he has, maybe a pack or two. Also, the goods, Cannot forget the goods, no sir.

Thoki heads to a small copse; what exactly a copse comprised varied between person to person and copse to copse, but this copse consisted of about ten trees. There was deep shadow in the middle, due to the trees being very competitive trees and having thick canopies.

Thoki tries to form a shadow dog.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Nothing happens, but Thoki feels a weird tingle, like there was a set of imaginary jaws trying and failing to bite his leg on the account of being imaginary.

Kaelan points out the two best stilettos of steel, in his opinion.

The blacksmith looks at the daggers, then at you.

He inquires whether or not you have the money to pay for it, and says that each one is worth five hundred copper, and is willing to haggle ... slightly.

Your ability to find strange ambiguity in actions is pretty astounding. Kudos to you.

Thoki shivered at the thought of the shadow dog gnawing at his leg, but he would have nothing of it. He concentrated again, focusing on the center of the copse where the shadows were deepest. He pictured it again, a large black dog with a large snapping mouth of jagged teeth. It would be sad to kill his own creation, but if it chose to turn against him he would at least get practice with his other powers.

Attempt to summon a shadowy dog again.

Find a large object I'd have a large time lifting. Try and lift it, then, after attempting to magically improve my strength once more, repeat and see if it was easier the second time around.

Attempt to harden my skin.
