Lets focus on vacinating the colony and comming up with a solution to its flu problem first, see if the algea beer has anything to do with it. Our algea could be mutating and we dont know it.

Unfortunately (or fortunately), the algae and plankton infestation has become incredibly potent during this time. There is now a large dead zone in Aquarius, covering 5% of the surface and growing, where no living creature besides the algae and plankton live. The scientist is furious, to say the least.

The probe arrives at the moons, and beams back interesting data. Many of the moons appear to be verdant, and divided up in geometric shapes, much as one would expect from intelligent life. There is a great deal of inter-orbital traffic: things are launched from the surface of one moon to the orbit of another, then dragged down from orbit to the surface. The probe is mostly ignored, though, and any communication is still aimed at the ship; it seems they haven't detected the probe.

The densest remaining patch of Algae is designated as a production zone, but it will take a month to resume industrial scale harvesting due to the massive damage inflicted. Attempts to use the laser are met with a hardware failure: the focusing mechanisms are out of sync, having been poorly constructed, and fail to properly gather and focus the light. It will take at least a month (if the effort is made) to fix it. A virus is also released, and it does a decent job of attacking the problem. Nevertheless, the algae infestation grows, covering 10% of the planet's surface now. The scientist is concerned. "The native species are mostly carnivores, and there is no natural predator for this stuff. We are in a real bind here... Aquarius is in serious trouble."

As the laser is inoperable, several satellites are deployed to watch for weather, and they notice another storm this month. Assets are shifted out of its way, thankfully, and no harm is done.

A quarantine kills of the remainder of the flu, and occasionally IV filtering is implemented to help sterilize the air. DNA scans are undertaken, and no major issues are found. Basic vaccinations are also administered, using stocks from the ship.

Breakthroughs occur in nano-assembly and quantum computing this month. The quantum computer stands ready to crunch data from the moon aliens, should it be instructed to do so. Nano-bots are now available for deployment, although the captain cautions against their deployment. "I've read too many novels about these things getting out of control. Move ahead with caution."

Speaking of getting out of control, a political consensus for change is brewing on the colony. Elections are held, and a new leader, called the Councillor, is elected. He demands that the captain step down from total command, and simply become a member of the new government. The captain is reluctant. Things are... tense.

Fortunately, the tension seems to lead to increased productivity, as different political groups race to wake up more potential voters. Another 1,000 citizens join the colony this month.

The terraformer notes that the ice comet-sea is most likely large enough to set up a sustainable ecosystem when combined with the existing water on the surface. He suggests figuring out a way to work on the temperature next.

How strong is that planets electromagnetic field? And would the terraformer be angry if we killed of all surface live on one half of the planet to save the other half?

Try to find a list of substances the algae are allergic too and the native life is not.
We could try to deploy the nanothingies.Anyway here the tech list. Feel free to request things to be modified or added.

- Tech ( This is just a stuff that might be useful list, sorted vaguely on importance)
-Design and build a giant space Telescope( Cheap, also we can use it to look at moons) It should have a modular design. Ie we can use the individual lenses as laser if we want to.
-Strong magnetic generators( For magnetic anti rad fields, Microparticle shields bullet deflection, and cloacking ships)
-Continue with the improbable and probably impossible Tesla beam. Also work on Laser point defense systems
-Design electrochemical ammunition for conventional weapons.(Bullets spontanously produces a strong electroshock upon hitting something)
-Work on nuclear fusion. ( We have giant laser lenses, this should be trivial)

We may winde up being stuck with the algea
>crunch moon alian data with quantum computer
>Engineer one or more species of the aquarian fish to eat the algea, consult teraformer before hand
>avoid geting involved in human politics

I think that's an easy way to get terminated yourself. Might want to take precautions first. Ie Depolying those nanobot thingies in the walls of the colonies. ( State that they are intended as an automated maintenance  system and will prevent sudden explosive decompressions).

I think we should use our new  tech advantage: Ie deploy those bots as maintenane units and other thingies in all systems. Have them recalibrate our laser and fix up the the gathering operation. Also, how long before we get another nuke. If we get enough and the infestation gets out of control, we can detonate them in the higher atmosphere in order to kill everything on that half of the planet.

Terrible idea with the nuke. The radiation will spread across the entire planet.Just allow the algae to take over the planet and use  it for resources.

ALgae have rapid growth rates and would therefore suffer more from the radiation. Most of the deepsea fish would survive, as nuclear explosives do not produce long term radioactive dust that will sink in the oceans. Radiation levels in the deepest parts will only be slightly higher then normal.

Remember the birds ?
They would die anyway if the algae would take over the planet, and maybe we could try to capture a part of the population to set out later.

Anyway, we also need some way to increase the temp on Aries. Currently it's too cold.

Some options
- Burn Co2 resevers
- Use a wellplaced charge to set off vulcanism*

* The amount of oceans we suddenly created might trigger plate tectonics, might want to deploy some seismografs.

We could try to research some basic ineffective tools that are managable by the Avians to kill amd maybe eat the algea. And train a few of them to use it. Worth a shot.

10 % of the surface is covered with algea. Also I think they're incapable of eating the Algea.

Maybe we should try crossbreeding whales and the thing that ate our expedition? Anyway, news of the operation on Aries is not to be amde public until it's clear that we're going to be able to fix up this mess.

If we want the birds to be saved we need to act quickly. Would our stasis machine work on them? It might be the only way to keep them alive until the terraforming is complete.
