I can see this is going to be a stimulating and cogent symposium.  Have fun gentlemen.

Anonymous is a collective protest group

No it's not.

...

For a moment I thought you were actually going to back that up. [/kidding ;p]

Anonymous is a banner under which many different people do many different things.

Anonymous isn't anything. And yet it's everything. It represents a good portion of the people who use the internet (though not equally. For example, neckbeards and basement-dwellers are over-represented). But because of the massive number of people, you cannot say anonymous is good or bad at anything. And that's what makes Anonymous dangerous. You don't really know what to expect.

I was hoping for this reply. This is exactly what I'm talking about. For everything someone says about Anonymous, someone else has a different opinion. Is there someone here who actually knows something about them?

I know who knows something about them.

You.

You are anonymous.

We are anonymous.

Yes, but then they'd have to kill you.

(Anon includes everyone from talented hackers to script kiddies. There are cells and then there are people who just carry the banner. In this day and age, I think DDoSing websites doesn't show a lot of technical capability. When Anon starts permanently crippling major website infrastructure, then I'll start paying more attention to them. Considering how the government is upping its game, Anon seems to be doing the same thing and achieving no real success from it. Other than posting pithy and humorous announcements of success, than is.)

Anon is Legion, for they are many.

That I can say for certain.

I consider anonymous as accidental social experiment in "how to create organisation that is un-organized as possible, yet still exist?". Fact of existing them for so long amazes me. They do not seem to going out any time soon.

Anonymous as a organization does not exist. It is a label that anyone from freedom fighters to terrorists can call themselves when they can not be arsed to think up a real name do not have enough permanence for a real name.

So... like the league of shadows from batman. Got it.

(no seriously it sorta works despite being much less organized. Anonymous is immortal, being a title passed from script kiddie to script kiddie.)

Anonymous is A)
Anonymous is a banner under which many different people do many different things.
...and B), what you think it is, which is to their advantage almost no matter what.

Now if only I could find a good clip on Youtube of the that one scene from The Princess Bride ("Nobody would be afraid of dread pirate Westley now would they?")
