After a reasonably exciting Day 2, the crowds to the arena are swelling to sizes never before seen. The first tournament of the season is about to start, and even the draw has attracted a great number. Rumors abound that someone let Naka, an arena master, sign up, but they stripped him of his armor and his wolf and made his spear copper. Still, anyone arrayed against him will have his work cut out for him. As an added clarification, administration let slip that rankings are calculated at the end of the day.
1 will fight 2, 3 will fight 4, etc. Order is randomized.

In a titanic battle of the third place, the two gladiators collide. The battle started out with Matthias charging early, using his size advantage effectively. On the way down, the human hacked Tersr in the lower right arm. The human unleashed a flood of attacks on the now fallen dwarf, but of 7 hits, only one hit, a shot to the lower right arm again. The dwarf was not happy, and decided to charge in retaliation, but his smaller size gave him a huge disadvantage, and he only managed to bounce backwards, falling down. The dwarf, however, was not disheartened by his low position, and slashed Matthias in the right lower leg, severing many nerves and preventing the human from standing. The human tried to fight back, but the next three attacks from the dwarf struck, disabling the other leg, and making the human drop his pine battle axe with a major blow to the left hand. The dwarf showed no mercy from that point on, repeatedly slashing the now helpless human, even forcing his shield from his right hand by slashing it off. Eventually, the human could take no more, and bled to death on the arena floor.
Terser advances in the tournament and is awarded 16 Urists.
Naka has a net worth of 66 after changes.
Flint was rather nervous at the thought of having to fight a stalwart of the arena, especially after not having fought the previous day. Attacking first, Naka stabbed the gladiator in the lower right leg, and after trading dodged blows, Naka struck again, again in the right lower leg, but this time disabling it, causing Flint to be unable to stand. He stabbed the human two more times, once in the right foot, once in the head. The latter shattered the skull and tore the brain.
Nake advances (which surprised me, given his lack of defenses). Doesn't count as a gladiator combat in rankings.
The number one ranked gladiator in the arena confidently strode into the arena, but Fekod was no less confident in his skills. Clara struck first, hacking the dwarf in his lower right leg. The dwarf retaliated with a charge, and they both ended up tangling together and falling. The dwarf then bashed the human in the upper left leg, but the human then charged the dwarf, tearing his left hand and opening an artery in the process. The dwarf lost hold of his copper mace, and the human just kept hacking the dwarf's left side. At one point, she almost delivered the killing blow, but the dwarf's cap deflected the blow. In three more pages of combat, the human kept hacking away at the dwarf, at one point even getting her battle axe stuck in his left eye! Eventually, the now half-blind dwarf's luck ran out, and a vicious strike to the head jammed the skull through the brain, ending the battle.
Clara advances, winning 17 Urists and remaining first in the rankings.
Sodel, it's rounded up when greater than .5, so it nets 4 Urists for you.
In the final tournament match of the day, two dwarfs faced off. Dastot gripped his suspiciously blunt weapon, and Sodel his copper sword. The battle started off quietly, with Dastot managing to kick Sodel in the right foot, but when Sodel charged, the battle was changed. Sodel stabbed Dastot in the left hand, disabling it and causing him to drop his axe. He also stabbed him in his right lower arm, disabling it too. Sodel showed no mercy after that, slashing away at the dwarf's body, quickly making him lose hold of his buckler, and soon after stabbing the other dwarf in the head. However, the brave dwarf continued, and it was only his serious lack of blood that did him in.
Sodel advances in a minor upset! He also receives 16 Urists.
Pan, having lost his first duel, did not have great confidence in her crossbow. However, she bravely strode into the arena to fight the waiting jaguar. In what most would have said was a stupid action, she charged the much larger jaguar, missing the blow, but tangling with it and knocking both to the ground. Not to be fazed, she struck what might have been the luckiest blow of her life to the jaguar's head, jamming the skull through the brain, striking it down.
Pan wins a major upset!
Jaqué strode confidently into his first match in the arena, taking his accent above the "e" into the arena with pride, and with the annoyance of the administration hanging over it. The wolf never had a chance, and the dwarf charged early, stabbing off the wolf's right front paw in the process. He quickly proceeded to clash the tail, perhaps as a gloating move, before stabing it in the head, tearing a tendon in it (?), shattering the skull and tearing the brain. It must have looked weird, as the sword got stuck in the poor wolf's head.
