Using conventional relativity, its mass would be essentially infinite. As we're not all being sucked into a black hole, though, something funky's going on.

Maybe it's similar to electron tunneling. It's moving at sub C speeds, but occasionally jumps instantaneously from one point to another. Or something else.

Quote from: Chesterton
For, in order that men should resist injustice, something more is necessary than that they should think injustice unpleasant. They must think injustice absurd; above all, they must think it startling. They must retain the violence of a virgin astonishment. When the pessimist looks at any infamy, it is to him, after all, only a repetition of the infamy of existence. But the optimist sees injustice as something discordant and unexpected, and it stings him into action.

Well bang goes my effort at a nobel prize for finding the 96% of the universe we are missing.

My next best idea is some form of shortcut/tunnelling through those tiny rolled up extra dimensions suggested by string or M theory.

Or maybe neutrinos are just tiny little specks of another dimension sticking through into ours. Like the Orz, but with less *frumple*.

Heh... possibly. Maybe thats where all the gravity goes - some other dimension.

"Oh hi there CERN. Found the Higgs Boson yet?"
"Nope, but we have broken the speed of light."
"Not good enough - keep trying!"

Nope. Facepunching only goes so far. Soon, however, using this new FTL technology, I will be able to punch someone so hard that they vanish and reappear somewhere randomly in spacetime with an uncertain velocity or at a measurable velocity but in an unknown place and time. Soon.

So, Neutrino telescopes?
Do-able?

Regardless of what's actually happening, we're going to learn something interesting out of this, and that's enough to get me pretty excited.

Oh, I'd totally tap that.
Wait...that's not what you meant, is it?

Oh, so that's how you/I/we went back in time. Never play "stop hitting yourself" with FTL punches, MZ.

Yes, and we have them, but neutrinos are notoriously hard to detect, so they can't see anything but the brightest of sources (so far we only know of 1 definitive source beyond the sun). maybe that IceCube and it's sister got a slightly better resolution, but we'll still not be able to see a conventional star with them.
